I went away on vacation for a month and my father and grandmother took care of my cat while I was gone. He is 10 months old and before I left he never peed or pooped on the floor not even as a kitten. Now all of a sudden when I come home he is not using the cat litter box at all he just pees and poops in random places around the house. How do I train him not to do this or what do I do to keep it from happening?

The same thing happened to me years ago. Turned out that Twiggy was sick. He may have a urinary infection. A trip to the vet is something you should consider.

Really? So a urinary infection would keep him from using the litter box? I have one up stairs and downstairs and he used them both, now he seems to not use either and just pees or poops random places its strange.

It's their way of letting you know something is wrong. Of course you can't smell what's wrong so the vet is the way to go. Did you change his diet at all while you were gone? Did your parents fail to change the litter which may have put him off? What else could be different?

Nothings different. Food is the same, litter box was cleaned out every day. Actually the cat liter that was upstairs was different than the one downstairs in my room and we dont have the other stuff that was in my room so they filled it up with the same stuff that was upstairs, but he still used the one upstairs and now hes not using either. Oh and a urinary infection would cause him to poop random places too?

or he could also have some intestinal problems as well. they'll check both at the vet.
once you've ruled out medical problems, or they've been treated, try the Cat Attract litter or additive to retrain him to his box. it really works!

Im thinking its something wrong with that cat litter. Because I just now had the incident occur right in front of me. He was looking for places to go poop and I just kept picking him up and putting him in the litter box, and by the third time all he did was pee a little. So then I sit back down and barely 2 minutes later hes right next to the litter box and hes going poo. I guess I should take him to vet and see wats up, if he has nothing to say then I will get a different cat litter.

If a cat has a urinary infection it will go many places because it tries to go in the litter box, but when it tries to go it is painful so they associate pain with the litter box and stop using it. We had that problem with one of our cats. We had to retrain him to use the litter box again after he was better. So my advice is bring him to the vet. The sooner the better. I hope everything goes well.
