I dunno what I think of it, whether I think it's in poor taste or not (no pun intended); and I have no idea if it's legit and they actually do what they claim. But thanks for sharing -- it's on its way around cyberspace as I write

Gave me a giggle. This doesn't seem to be any different than the "veterinarian" chew toys.

Lol! I want one. Who cares if it's in bad taste? Can't be in any worse taste than brutally murdering dogs for fun.

I might get two!!! After all, there's two dogs at home. Although, they may have more fun tug-of-warring it between them
post #11 of 30
I must admit I was nervous about posting the link. I saw it on another forum and many were horrified, offended and mortified at the 'racist" implication, so they said.
I'm glad it was taken in the spirit it was intended.
crying racist is the last gasp call for those that cant come up with anything else.

so you would make a vick doll white?
Well I think on Voodoovick, many offended said the little braids were reminiscent of pickaninnies. I don't want anyone thinking I am trying to be racist but voodoovick did make me laugh.
does he not have like corn rows or soemthing in his hair ?
at least it seemed that way to me when i saw him on the news.
I'm not sure, you are probably correct. If so, that is a hoot that someone had to bring up "pickaninnies" and "black face" on that forum. Some people just love to be offended I guess.
Well here's a funny story. I never EVER knew that `pickaninny' was a racist and derogatory term. I just thought it was a term for cute little Negro children who are too gorgeous for words. I used it once when I first met Max and I saw the most darling little black boy on TV, and he almost swallowed his tongue. He made me promise to never, ever say it, ever again. I was flabbergasted - had NO idea how horribly racist I was being. I thought it was a term of endearment. Just goes to show the total coloquial language barriers that can exist even between countries that predominantly speak the same language. I was totally mortified and have never said it again.
i dont think i have seen the world pickaninny used in conversation ever.
i dont even remember seeing it on old movies.

hmm i think i have seen it used in some books.
Maybe it hearkens back to the Little Rascal days.
It was a very common word when I grew up. Mom taught us little ditties about pickininnies. It is racist and that is not coming from someone with nothing better to say on the topic. There are many ways someone could have chosen to make such a doll that did not have to look like a pickaninnie.

Are patterns of football players so tough to cut out? Nope.

'nuff said.

Not being a sports fan, I'd never heard of him, either. The only time I EVER know anything about athletes, is when they get in trouble and make it into the news.
I saw the original, but not the voodoovick one and thought the chew toy was very appropriate and hilarious, but I have to say that the voodoovick one is just a bit questionable I personally have never heard the term pickaninnie either

I've never heard the term either. Must be a regional thing

I think the chew toy is wonderful. Has nothing to do with race. Its because he's a dog murderer. Anyone who would bring race into it, is just foolish. If I had a dog, I would get one for it

It could be regional, it could be that a lot of people simply don't interact much outside the circle they were born into or it could be age. It is an old word - I am 42 and my biggoted family in Missouri/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Iowa used it often.
Here is a link to the Jim Crow museum explaining what the term pickaninny is:
http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/picaninny/

The chew toy is fine. It is the second, the voodoo, that is not.

Michael Vick deserves every bad thing that has and ever will happen to him. His cronies as well. Cannot have a dog-fighting ring without other dogs and other people to bet against. Hope they are all brought down.

From a legal standpoint I have to wonder how long the chew toy will be available since it's a likeness of Michael Vick. Even though there isn't anything on the toy that says NFL or Flacons the uniform is an uncanny likeness of the Falcons, complete with Vick's number. On the other hand I have to imagine that the NFL wouldn't want to take the PR hit by having the company pull the chew toy.
Just for another perspective (and I admit, I am surprised to see that this toy would obviously sell well to more folks than I thought)..on a business list I am on, mostly dog oriented folks, this was not well received. The thought being that if the motive for the toy was to profit off a horrible situation, that's not cool.
Plus at first, the site noted a specific pet welfare organisation (sorry the letter that should be where the s is isn't working on this keyboard!) that a per centage of money would go to. However they were requested by that organisation to remove whatever they had up(not sure what was up, only read about it in the note from the organisation to this company, which was posted on a pet retailers board) - banner and or logo as they had no agreed upon relationship with this organisation.

I think it will take a bit of hard work for them to repair the initial impression upon pet retailers.

That said, I have no idea what their motivation is, just sharing others feelings about this, from the pet industry.

Well, I'm multicultural and it sure didn't offend me. If someone commits a heinous crime, as far as I'm concerned, only THAT matters, and I don't care if the person is a member of a group in which I have affiliation or not. This guy and his friends (ALLEGEDLY) have no regard for the lives they caused to suffer and die, nor do they care about the feelings of anyone who has regard for them. To me, all life is sacred, whether I personally care for the individual being or not; and someone who has a lack of regard for living beings is outraging the Higher Power Who created all life, as well as the lives they take, and all of us who care about them. I will never be an apologist for ANYONE who does that.
