I know with my moms 115 yr old cat, Buddy, anytime my mom changes litter, he will not use it and goes in the house. But, we always attributed that to this particular cat being very territorial and demanding.

Allie is on Premium Choice, which is apparantly a reasonably priced scoopable cat litter. I went up to get my dog food yesterday and the local pet store doesn't even carry it. The nearest I could get it is a half hour away and since I plan on having her indoors full time, so she won't be going potty outside ever, it is going to need to be changed an awful lot. I hate dirty litter boxes, lol.

So, should I just make the drive once and a while and stock up while there? Or try mixing and switching?

If I decide to switch, is it better to go with a natural litter like yesterdays news or sweat scoop? Or will a cat that has been on a commercial scoopable cat litter like Premium Choice for so long even take to that type of litter.

I know, I know, I am shooting out questions like crazy, lol. I just want to be prepared for her. I'm excited, I've really wanted a cat for a while now.

Wow, that's an old cat! But, yes, some cats are very particular about what brand of cat litter they use.

If you wanted to could always try a different brand, that's up to you and your cat whether or not you like the brand. If your cat doesn't like the brand, she'll let you know.

Depends upon what you want to do. If the cat is used to this brand and she likes it I would personally continue with that brand. If your thinking maybe she would like something else better, and you would like to shorten up your trip - then switch. It's really one of those things that depends upon you and the cat... it changes from person to person.

I wouldn't necessarily say one is better then the other... and I wouldn't say which one to use. I don't really think one is better then the other, it just depends upon what the cat will use. If your cat is very picky, you may not want to switch...

I know that your excited and want everything 'perfect'. I feel it's actually best to just leave things the way they are as long as the cat is satisfied.

I would try mixing it sloooowly, and if it was me, I probably would use a non-scented litter as close as possible to what kitty likes. 15 is pretty senior for a cat, so he's probably had this litter preference for a long time.

I'm not sure I've ever heard of Premium Choice? Is that a store brand?

Premuim Choice can be bought at Pet Supplies Plus and Petco. It's usually flushable, though they have a regular scoopable litter, which is what she's on now.

mybabyphx, your info was very helpful. Thank you. I haven't decided what I am going to do, most likely just drive out every once in a while and stock up. When I worked at the pet store, I knew people who came in to buy that same litter and bought 14-15 bags at a time. They bought for the entire year and came once a year.

My cat isn't picky about his litter at all and will use whatever is in the box. My preferece is tidycat scoop for multi-cat house (even though there is only him). It seems to do a better job at hiding odor than a couple others I have used.

If you want to switch her to something else, you might mix them half and half for a little while first and switch her slowly, just in case she is fussy about it

I drive 30 minutes every two weeks for my cats food, so I guess I'd have to say, if it were me, I'd just go where the litter was and stock up while I was there. Personal choice I guess. I've had mine on different sorts of cat litters and they hated everyone except Tidy cat, so that's the one I stick with.
Changing litters isn't easy, and if they don't like it, that's even worse, because they will find another place to go.
