We gave them a bath with Dawn. Already I can tell their coat has lost a lot of it's... lustre, I guess you would call it. My youngest cat HATED it, but the older one was just like 'meh'.

We bought a flea comb... found NOTHING on either of them, but then found two on Sassy after the bath. One was dead or at least almost dead, and got lost in her hair when my finger slipped, and the other one hopped around on the towel I had her on and then we think we got it and drowned it.

I'm going to wait a week to get them the Frontline Plus, my boyfriend has been going overboard with this whole thing, spraying the stuff around the house a lot more than I think is necessary. I'm trying to explain to him that vacuuming should be good enough at this point since we are by no means totally infested.

There are just so many conflicting things being said on every site I go to, my head is dizzy trying to figure out whats what. I think this is good, and I won't be giving them any other treatments or baths, just the Frontline. If they have a cold or anything, I'll put it off.

They are both grooming themselves in front of me and shooting me some reallllly nasty looks. Poor kitties.

A friend of mine said she got her Frontline Plus on Ebay for a great price...

well I did a quick search and auctions such as this are everywhere. Is this dangerous? I thought using dog meds on cats was BAD?

If this is true, I could buy one of those and have enough for both cats AND our dog. That'd be pretty great.

I like Revolution, it is very fast acting on fleas. In fact, within 24 hours, the majority of the fleas on your cat will be dead. However, Revolution also kills the eggs and the pupa stage of the flea. Revolution also prevents heart worm, ear mites and I believe, hook worms and or tape worms. I would need to look that part up. But I know it works great for fleas.

I am going to check and see if I can find the posts regarding using the dog Advantage on the kitties....you have to be VERY CAREFUL, and I was...and it worked!!! I'll see if I can find it.

You would have to go on my threads to read it all, but here is one that I copied. You may want to send a personal message to Pat & Alex, she is one of the members who helped me. Just remember...be very careful.

Good luck....hope it works for you as well as it did for me....and don't forget the Borax if you can't get them out of the rugs.

" The dose for cats is weight dependant...if you give all your cats, regardless of size, .4 cc it may not be an effective dose.

Here is the dosing information my vet gave me (I always buy the for dogs over 55 lbs. Advantage)
For cats under 9 lbs. - give 0.4 ml, for cats over 9 lbs. give 0.8 ml.
(1 cc is eqivalent to 1 ml)"

Thanks so much TooMany. I went out and bought a scale today so I can weight them now. I'm almost positive my bigger girl is over 9lbs. It;s funny that it says for any size of cat, but that doesn't make much sense if it's so weight dependant on the dogs.

Do you recommend Advantage over Frontline Plus?

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay...this is what I was told. First of all....I use a cc syringe...not a ml syringe. I had quite a few of them from medications.

I used the same amount on all the cats....even though I new some of them were over 9 pounds...didn't want to overdose....but....it worked.

Okay....I wish I could remember who sent me the picture of the syringe...but at any rate..

At the top of the syringe the last cc is 1/2. I put just a notch above that...meaning not quite 1/2. It seemed like a very small amount, but remember, you are using the 55 + Advantage for dogs. I took a knife and marked a small slit on the syringe as the Advantage will eventually take off the marking.

Also...make sure it is Advantage...and not Advantix.

As far as your dog is concerned...I do not know the size, but I have a Bijon and gave him a little less than 1 cc....and it has been over a month....still no fleas on the dog or the cats.

Of course, my cats are all indoors and if the dog doesn't have them....the cats have little chance of getting them.

Let me know if this makes sense. I just can't remember who sent me the personal email with the exact instructions...but the above is what it boiled down to.

P.S. I discussed this with my vet who said it was fine.....they just don't openly recommend it because some people don't follow instructions well and could harm their animals doing this.

You said...." It;s funny that it says for any size of cat, but that doesn't make much sense if it's so weight dependant on the dogs." What were you referring to?

I was wondering what she was reading that from....to make sure she had not purchased anything other than Advantage for this treatment, using the dog Advantage.

hehe, I meant regarding most products just say "for all size of cats". But if you have a big stinker, they would obviously need more than a 7lb cat. It was really late, my mind wasn't working too well. LOL

I'm gonna go with Advantage I think. I've never ebayed before!

Okay....I am only pushing this because it really worked and nothing else had in the past.....but remember....I have 16 cats....so maybe you could just go ahead and order the separate ones for your dogs and few cats.

And....I don't want to get in any trouble on this forum....but I personally would not use Ebay. Check out the prices on the link I gave you for Thomas Vet supply. It was cheaper there than most "reliable" places and I prefer to get anything for my animals from a vet or at least a vet supply place.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Oh dear I just ordered some. It's from a lady who says she is a vet (who knows right) but it's a box of the XL dog advantage. What could go wrong with it? I can always cancel the auction I guess and get a bad rep... hmm.

When Blossom was a baby I used Felix worming paste suitable for kittens which comntrolled tape worm. When she was big enough to go onto Revolution I asked vet about tapeworm, as Revolution doesn't control tapeworm, only hookworm & roundworm. The vet said as she had been on Felix which controlled tapeworm which is passed on by fleas, she wouldn't need tapeworm treatment b/c Revolution controls & kills all lifestages of fleas.
You can see a list from the Revolution pack on what it controls in post number 15 to this thread.

Is it the Advantage....and not Advantax? Is it for dogs 55 pounds plus?
Just wait until you receive it.....check the expiration date, etc.

How much did you have to pay for it?

It's advantage, for 55+ dogs.

It was $44 bucks USD for two of them, we got enough to do the dog and then the two cats. The payment went through, so now I can't stop it, if I have to I will just return it!
