My cats have never fought like this

Hi my cats have fought in a play battle but yesterday (saturday august 4th 2007) they got to agressive it involved hissing biting scratching and heavy meowing it sceard me alot and i dont think it would have happend if we didnt have 2 but one was a reward for finding him (the cats are Sunshine and Kuddles) ever since i was 3 when we got Kuddles. at age 5 we got Sunshine
and never have they fought like this ever since yesterday

How are your cats doing now? Sometimes an outside cat or threat can cause redirected aggression at a companion cat. The best thing to do is to separate them as soon as possible and give them a chance to cool down. If they are still having problems, then try to reintroduce them to each other. I wouldn't worry about a one time thing. If it keeps happening, try to determine if one or the other is always starting it. If so, that one needs to be checked by a vet. Sometimes when cats don't feel well they want the other resident cats to leave them alone and will "fight" with them even if they are normally good friends.

I hope it was just a one time thing though. Like katachtig said, redirected aggression can cause it also.
