Hi, my names Amee and I recently adopted a Cat who was abandoned by our next door neighbours when they moved home. I thought I would join here because I'm a novice at having cats and maybe to gain some advice from people who have more knowledge. He's a black and white I think Norwegian forest cat, (having been looking on the internet I'm pretty convinced, plus my mum is swedish and she said she thinks so too) He is very sweet and I think i've become very attatched to him already!! His name is Musii now, it means cat in my husbands language (not very original I know, but my 2 year old daughter started calling him that and it stuck!), I have a concern with him though in that he is very thin, and I'm not sure if that is normal in cats or not, he looks big because of his fur, but you can feel the ribs through his skin is this normal? Any advice would be appreciated, thankyou very much in advance!!

Welcome Musii and Amee!

THANK YOU for opening your heart and your home to Musii -- I'm sure that you will never regret adopting such a wonderful guy!
No, it's not normal or healthy to feel the ribs very much, if at all -- he has probably gone without adequate food for some time, and needs a high-quality diet (check the forums on TCS for dietary recommendations for your area and budget! There are many UK members here) and a veterinary check-up would be highly recommended; if he is not neutered, that would be first priority, and of course, his basic innoculations and a general checkup need to be given without delay if he has not had these.
BEST OF LUCK and the forums and members here at TCS are here to help.
I'm sure you'll find a wealth of good information here.
Our very best to you and Musii, and keep us updated, won't you?

Thank you so much for taking this kitty in
- it sounds like a check up at the Vet's would be a great idea just to make sure that everything is ok.

Thankyou very much for all the responses, and for your advice!! I am going to do the things you all have suggested it seems taking him for a check up is the main advice here. He has obviously always been an outdoor cat as every night he just wants to go out; if he is to go out I would rather it was in the day but have no idea on how to change his pattern, he's already bought us 2 presents, so iv bought quite a few toys to try and deter him but I've got a feeling it wont work. He is sleeping at the moment. Thankyou all again

He's seeking your approval and letting you know he'll earn his keep
I praise anyone here who brings me a present (the presents are always only toys, because around here, it's indoors-only!
)

Thanks for caring about him and doing all you can to ensure his safety and comfort. You're a star in our book!
