Whenever I get home
Senior Kitty knows the sound
of my car coming down the road.
I know this because she's always at the door.
and people say that she runs there
long before I enter the driveway.
My parents used to say
She'd learned to yowl my name
It sounded like "Me-yell! Me-yell!"
With a bit of gurgling
choking
to make the "ll" sound (oh yeah. My name is Danielle)
My Senior Kitty has gotten better with age
Like I hear wine does.
Or cheese.
Although my cheese has never gotten better with age.
It just gets mold.
but that's another lousy bad semi-poem
My Senior Kitty has wise eyes.
Everyone comments on her eyes.
They say it looks like she
knows things.
Knows things that she shouldn't.
Then they get nervous as if she knows
what they did on their last date.
My Senior Kitty is always with me.
She's calm.
calm while she watches the Food Network with me
calm while I play with the computer.
calm while I eat a tuna sandwich only two feet away from her.
She knows not to beg.
I'll give her a little bit of tuna no matter what she does.
(Kitten doesn't know this yet.)
Senior Kitty sits at my feet whenever I have cereal.
She sits very very quietly.
Very patient.
And waits.
She knows that at the end of my meal
she's going to lick the bowl.
But she also knows not to rush me.
(yeah yeah. I know cats shouldn't have real milk.
but at her age she gets what she wants.)
Senior Kitty is slowing down.
Her 13th birthday is this month.
She was with me through part of middle school.
High school.
College.
and now in my house as I am entering Marriage.
At the vet they asked how I look at my pets.
Children, Family, or Animals.
Yeah yeah...Baby Kitten i listed as Children.
But Senior Kitty doesn't fit into those
catagories. She's "FRIEND."
*sigh* bad poem. but i just wanted to try and write one for Merfy's 13th birthday...plus she was sitting on my chest on the couch, purring and i thought "man. I love older cats like this...I love this cat in particular!"
