We decided to bring stoli out for a quick ride since the last time he was in a car he was coming home from a week at the boarder.

we got the carrier out and he jumped right in. he loves it. we took him outside and got in our car turned the AC on - not blowing on him...and about 5 minutes into the ride i smelled stoli's breath. I looked at him and his mouth was halfway open, you could see his teeth, and it sounded like short short hisses or panting, or maybe smelling.

DH's car smells of dirty golf socks, the ac was on but not full blast, we were thinking either he was smelling the car - still new.

or

he was hissing at us to let us know he did not want to be in the car.

or

he was panting because he was hot

or

he was in 'panic' mode about the last two times he was in a car....

we took him home and he got out and ran over to the door and whined for food.

should we be concerned? what happened?

Did he look like he was grimacing? If so, I would suspect smelling.

If he isn't showing any respiratory problems, then I'm thinking it was your DH's smelly socks. Which BTW, my cats just are enamored with my DH's socks. The stinkier the better.

My kitten Tubee always pants on car rides, but he pants because he gets worked-up on car rides. He hates them. I hope that your kitty is ok.

I don't think cats show anxiety like that. They tend to howl, cower, shake, vomit. Though this panting does make one think of a dog when it is anxious.
