I couldn't decide where I was supposed to post this, so I chose here
.

There is a person on my Cystic Fibrosis forums (for those of you who don't know, it is an inherited lung -including sinuses, and inflamation is a major componant- and digestive disease), and she has just found out that she is allergic to her cats (but mostly her newest, long haired cat- that's how she found out).

Rehoming isn't an option, really, as the oldest cat is 15, and she really, really wants to keep them! (Of course!)

Does anyone have any tips on keeping her allergies in check around the house? It has been suggested that the cats be kept out of the bedroom, having someone bathe the new cat for her periodically, lots of vacuuming with a hepa or water filtered vacuum, and getting hardwoods instead of carpet; but I told her I would check here and see if y'all had any other suggestions for her (we've got her covered on the medicines
).

Thanks in advance for any help!

I think she's about got it covered with those suggestions.

DH is allergic so I'll just tell you what we do. First, he takes allergy meds. We do sweep and vacuum regularly as well as keep the girls brushed well. The girls aren't allowed in our bedroom, or if they do come in (like when I'm folding laundry) they have to stay on the floor. We've been using a waterless bath for reducing allergens and that seems to help. (See here: http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...4961558&Ne=187) We've now had the girls for 2 1/2 years and DH has noticed that his allergies to them have lessened. So maybe with some time she will build up some resistance to this new kitty.
