Don't let the ads and commercials fool you...

The MAJOR pet food companies make their commercials so cute, the cats looking sooo healthy and playful and everybody is smiling.

They have tons of $ to spend on ads and commercials - so the unsuspecting customer who does not know what's REALLY in the pet food will of course, buy the food. That's what commercials do, they brainwash.

I never see commercials or ads for the small pet food companies who make HIGH QUALITY food; could it be they use their $ on high quality ingredients and not garbage fillers? And could it be that they really care for our pets rather than the Almighty $ ?

The MAJOR pet food companies are like wolves in sheep's clothing.

Reading the Health Forum on cat foods will educate you on the best foods. A healthy food for your cat will result in less vet bills.

I think this is probably a moot point on this forum since most of us here are well aware of this and know the difference between good and bad food. All you have to do is visit the Health and Nutrition forum and start reading. You'll get more information than you probably wanted to.

If you read the threads in that forum, you'll notice that most of the recommendations made are not for the widely advertised commercial foods.

You're asking why they don't advertise? I suspect because they figure their advertising dollars aren't going to be productive if their products aren't sold in the places where most people shop for pet foods: grocery stores, warehouse clubs, major chain stores. They can't get their products in there because it's expensive to get your products shelf space in the major retailers. They can't compete with the major pet food labels on price, so the amount they'd sell in those places where people go to buy food based mostly on price and not quality doesn't justify what they'd have to spend on advertising and merchandising. They're content to sell where they can get placed based on the merits of the product, and rely on word-of-mouth to bring in the customers. It must be working fine, since I don't see them going out of business.

Well, I posted this because I once was un-educated, so this thread would be for all the newbies out there.

I feel so bad knowing NOW that I was feeding my cat of 9 years garbage dry.

I feel so much better that she is eating HEALTHY today.

EDT: Because of my ignorance, my cat now has a condition underneath on her belly area that is something like male-pattern baldness. There is no fur from her belly area to her tail area. When her dog died, it sent her into a stress that caused her underside to be bald. Then more stress from a new dog a month later. I forgot the name of the condition. If she was eating healthy, she would not have gone into such a condition, she would have been healthy to begin with. The stress would have been there, but not so severe. She needs to be on medication for the rest of her life.
