How many times do cats usually go poop a day?

My cat eats grain free, and poops very small once a day or less. There's just less "junk" to poop out with her diet.

I have a 10 mtg old calico an I feed her blue organic weight control and this animal I promise poops her body weight in about 36 hrs. It is indeed smelly at first but quickly dies, like a lingering tart. I feed her 1/4 cup twice daily. Am I doing something wrong? I wish she would go once a day.

The food doesn't agree with her is what that means.

Switch to a canned food diet and see if that does the trick.  Also, if she's only 10 months old, she doesn't need to be on a weight control food.  Cut back on the dry and increase the wet.

We have 6 cats in the house & mine pretty much go poop once daily which I think is relatively normal. Depending on what you feed him, will depend on the odor as well. If the stools are soft or mushy, than it could be an intestinal issue. Giving probiotics will help but if there is an underlying problem that is causing this, it will not remedy the problem. Have you had the stools checked by your vet?

Could it be your cat is stressed about the new addition to your family?  You mentioned the baby is 4 months old.  Most cats don't like change.  And they don't appreciate someone else taking up the attention they used to get.  Mine bites my ankles when I talk on the phone, and sulks in the closet when I have guests.  Cats can be real jerks sometimes.  Not sure how other cat parents deal with this sort of thing.

Seems like everytime I turn around either Bella or Thunder is in the box to poop. I'm  constantly scooping it out. Lord give me a break I say to them.

I feed my cats Cat Chow Natural and they also poop several times a day. 5 cats = lots of poop.  I only have a couple cats that really smell bad but I have been thinking of finding another food. I fill up their feeder in the morning and they eat on it all day (dry food) and have full access to water.

I have one that will poop outside the box if it hasn't been cleaned before bed. She only poops at night.

A lot has to do with what you feed your cats as there are a lot of foods that say Natural but are definitely not. You have to be able to read the ingredients plus understand the ingredients as to what is really in the food you are feeding. Remember the less ingredients the better.

I just got Acheron on Feb 4, and feed him Purina Kitten Chow which he seems to like. I fill the bowl before I leave for work and again when I get home if it's low. He's 13 or 14 weeks old but seems to poop a lot. I clean out the box every morning and I'm amazed at how many clumps there are in it. Some are pretty big sized. I wouldn't think a cat that young could be so full of it.

My kitten is on a raw only diet ... He poops once a day. Twice at most.

my raw-fed kitten poops once every two days. Tiny amounts as well, with almost no odur. When I fed her kibble with grains, she pooped at least two times a day (with a very strong scent).... I don´t miss that!

High calorie food is all junk carbs, read the labels. If you can get a high calorie cat food that has as much protein as cats need and no junk carbs like corn or wheat or meal in it go for it other wise avoid it!

Gravy in food equal empty calories and higher blood sugar same with most dry foods.. if you want to give something dry for crunch there is something called cat man doo freeze dried chicken and snapped into bite size cat pieces gives an all day crunchy item for them with no junk its pure chicken freeze dried best of luck

Hi everyone,

My girl normally poops once every other day (I've had her for 13yrs, so this was her "normal" cycle).  She was previously on Wellness grain-free canned food, but after a recent bout with pancreatitis, we switched her temporarily to Purina Prescription Gastroenteric canned.  She didn't like the taste, but I was nervous to switch her back to the Wellness in case that caused the pancreatitis.  

After much research, I decided to try the Weruva Paw Lickin Chicken because it seems the most species-appropriate without all of the unnecessary fillers and veggies.  I'm actually planning to switch her to a homemade diet, but thought the Weruva would be a nice bridge step between Wellness and homemade.  She was fully transitioned to Weruva about 2 weeks ago.  The odd thing is that she hasn't been pooping as often.  It now appears to be every 3-4 days which does not seem normal at all.   I took her to the vet (for routine bloodwork only) last Weds, and they did a fecal.  She pooped that day, then pooped again on Sunday (4 days apart).  I've been anxiously awaiting her to poop today but so far nothing.  

Also the poop on the new diet is lighter in color and a tiny bit smellier (sorry for TMI).  I thought that it would resemble more of the raw-diet poop, since there are less fillers in Weruva than Wellness, but that doesn't seem to be the case.. 

I've never seen her constipated, so I don't really know what to look for (aside from the symptoms listed online).  She doesn't seem to be uncomfortable, and doesn't go back and forth to the litter box.  She has an appetite and is eating normally (which I would think if you're constipated, you're not hungry)...

Has anyone else experienced this?  

You can guess why we started calling our boy Cleto "Sir Crapsalot". He does number two, 4 or 5 times a day. He's 5 months old, so I guess this will adjust with age. I feed him with a premium dry food we find here where I live (not the U.S.).
