Let me start from the begining....

Yesterday while I was working at home DH came in from vacuuming the pool and said some lady wanted to use the phone.
So I walked outside and this woman appeared from the carport. I let her use the phone and when she was done she went on and on about her boyfriend who was on crack just beat her up and she needed to call a friend to beat him up.
I told her she should call the police and she said she didn't want to because she thought she might have a warrent for her arrest and that her and her boyfriend cashed her mom's disability check. At this point I just wanted her off my property.
She then asked me "Can I stay here for a couple days?"
I told her "Im sorry, no but there are women's shelters out there"
She then took off walking inbetween houses. I was shocked because this is a decent neighborhood and generally don't have these things happen.
So I figured that was that and she was gone.... no big deal.

Well about an hour ago I had just got out of the pool and was getting just getting into bed.
I heard a banging on the house but passed it off as one of the kids kicking the wall in thier sleep.
Well I heard it again and twice as loud.. Jake heard it also and flipped out barking.
I went outside thinking one of the neighbors was out there.
Nope.. it was the same woman again.
Obviously on crack!
She went on and on about her boyfriend trying to set the house on fire and then tried to get in my SUV!
I ran in the house to grab the phone to call the police and when I came back out she was wandering around my carport and walked into my utility room.

When she realized I had the phone in my hand, she took off.

The cops came and are looking for her now. When/if they find her she's going to get arrested for attempted breaking and entering.

Now I can't sleep because I don't know if she's gonna come back and try to break in again.
She's obviously a crackhead and needs help but I can't jepordize my family to help her.
DH is also upset because we've been broken into once already.

The neighbor is a night owl and she's nosey
so she's also keeping an eye on the house for me.

I told the police where I think she lives (from her directions yesterday) and hope they get her

Oh my god that's scary -- and it's wonderful that you would want to be helpful to someone, but please, NEVER let anyone into your house! If they need a phone, the most you should do is bring a cellphone out to them... and unless they're bleeding, you probably shouldn't even do that. You just have no way of knowing who you're dealing with.

I'm imagining what might have happened if her crazed boyfriend had followed her there with a gun.
Please be careful!

When she asked for the phone, I brought it out to her. I never let her in the house. She actually stood outside the fence.

But you're right, who knows if her boyfriend was following her!

Oh my, that would freak me out too!!!! I hope the police find her for you. Which I bet money they do. I would have never helped her either, yes she needs help but letting a crack addict into your home is like letting a wild tiger in there! Yes she needs help but not the kind of help you can give her. You're hlep will get her on her feet so she can go smoke some more crack. Jail or prison is what she really needs. Perhaps she will get the help she needs there. If not, hopefully she will the next time she ends up there!

So in all reality, you are helping her!

Gah... people these days. Sorry that happened to you! I am so paranoid about the world today, because you never know. I live practically next door in the same apartment complex as my boyfriend, and he has a gun, and can get to my house in 30 seconds on foot if necessary!

Freaky!

Have there been any robberies in your area recently? It's possible that she and her boyfriend use a ruse to gain access to someone's house in order to scope out whether there is anything good there to steal.

I would just ask the police if they could make a drive by every few hours, especially at night.

If this woman is on crack (sounds like she is) then she could turn into a problem.

Hopefully though the scene with you holding the phone in your hand (after calling the police) will stick.

Nope... Back in Dec it was a bunch of teenagers who broke into my house.

The police drove by every 2 hours last night. I know because thier bright light came in the window every time they did

I was so paranoid last night too. Every time I heard a bump or rattle, I was jumping out of bed.. But then I figured out if Jake wasn't freaked, then I shouldn't be either.
Most the time it was one of the Brats tearing up something..... preferably the paper towels

Oh, I'm sorry I misunderstood -- I'm so glad you didn't let her in.

I have the greatest sympathy for the mentally disturbed, and I wish this country did a better job of caring for them... but I've had a few encounters that scared me silly, so I also have a healthy desire to stay the heck out of their way!
