Help! Cat Pooping On Brand New Carpet!

We just got new carpet, and one of our two cats keeps pooping on it. We did catch her peeing on it once, but hasn't since then- she just keeps pooping on it now. I know she is probably just upset because the "new carpet smell" is really strong plus we took out all of the old furniture and the room is pretty bare (the new stuff hasn't arrived yet). I tried putting some items back in that had familiar scents on them, but I think the carpet smell is just too overpowering. Any suggestions???

Put a litter box where the cat poops. Or feed them where the cat poops.
