I'm soooo glad to hear you are ok!!!!

Gaye, please do update us when you can! I am praying that your sister and her family are all safe.

Does anyone know if we have any other members in that area?

Many prayers going out for all of these people and their families involved. I just cannot imagine something like that.

Big Hugs to you Sweetie...... to know that you avoided that seems overwhelming to me.

Many prayers for your sister and her family, too, Gaye.

Yes i was. I cross that bridge every single day, twice a day. Going to work, and back home again.

For the last 2 hours we've been upstairs watching the news on this. I find it kinda funny that a NON-Minnesota person posted about this before we did

But none in our family was affected. DH has been calling some family members that might have been affected and found out that his sister's daughter had just gotten over the bridge and got to her work about 15-20 mins BEFORE the bridge collapsed.

Will be a mess in the morning with people trying to figure out alternate routes into the twin cities. I worked at home today, so will see what happens tomorrow.

And there are 20,000 baseball fans being held at the dome and they will not be letting anyone leave there when the game is over!

Update - 38 injured, 6 dead and one construction worker missing (as of 9 pm)

What the heck does that mean
I was watching tv, saw the breaking news, have customers and other ties to the state, and I cared about the horror I was seeing. I thought maybe folks here on the forum might not yet have heard about it since the channel I was watching had the only live footage on air at that time.

geesh.

Sending lots of vibes and prayers to all Minneapolis area people. Stay safe. Keep us updated, please, as people who might have been involved are located.

I think she just means that she was suprised that the people closest to where the collapse happend weren't the ones to report it here.

If it had been near me, I'd probably have been too stunned or concerned about friends and family to get on TCS right away.

Almost in IA. I'm safe. I was at work until just now.

I'm glad you're OK Katie! I was back & forth across that bridge quite a few times just 2 weeks ago. Totally freaky. Last I heard 7 were now dead.

Mega for all involved.

It's 11:30 PM (10:30 CT) and still no word yet. The home phone goes unanswered and the cells are all still jammed.

I visited my sis there several years ago and went across that bridge ... I remember it because I looked down and asked "What is that water down there?" and was told it is the Mississippi River. I thought it was cool because at the time, I had never been any further west than the Mississippi and well, now I had.

I did speak to my mother who concurs with the thought that my sis normally would have gone home more towards the East than where this disaster happened. But we do know that my sister was planning on visiting friends after work tonight and would have been in the area around that time to meet them.

We are very worried.

Gaye, I am so sorry this is happening to you.
She might not be able to get home because of this and may be stuck wherever she is. Sending mega vibes for your sister that she arrives home safely.
