Well now that was interesting stuff. First of all he knew something was up so tried to run, then when I got him, he kept smacking the feeder with his paw and biting it. Anyway about 10 seconds later Ryu was on a sugar high.
Good thing or bad thing? good thing that he was given a boost of energy and hasn't puked again, bad thing was crashing and banging with Diego for the rest of the night.

After the vet I had to take Ryu home and go straight to my Bonsai class.

Ryu has a fever. Thats it. If he eats and drinks, he eats and drinks, if he doesn't too bad, thats the way it goes. Or as die_to_xxx will understand the term shouganaina, which means too bad, or thats the way it is/goes.

I have meds for him 2x a day for 3 days if he doesn't get better, keep giving him the meds. Smells a bit pepperminty too.

I asked what might have caused the fever and the vet said, "the fever is the cause" and I was like "the fever caused the fever!?" and then he said "oh no maybe he licked something", then my mind suddenly clicked as to what the cause may have been. On Sunday or Monday, when I gave him the last of the ointment for under his neck he was licking a little. That was several days ago but guess it may be the cause, otherwise I'm stumped.

I tried to feed him this morning but he only ate 1/2 a teaspoon of wet, I know this coz I only gave him a teaspoonful as per the NZ vets instructions lastnight. I will keep force feeding him the the water solution that Jcat suggested, just so he's keeping up his fluids.

Other than that I guess I just gotta play the waiting game.

That's a relief... I .. think? I mean, he'll be fine right? It's just a case of waiting for the fever to break?

You're doing a great job though.. I hope he's back to his usual self soon!

Must be some fever though to make him vomit so much.

I tell you I have never experienced so much trouble with cats til coming here.

I had never heard of cat flu or bronchitis til I got here. I am quite certain but not 100% that when I was living in NZ and had cats, apart from spaying/neutering and annual check ups, I think the most serious thing I took my cats to the vet for was fleas or worms. Same with childhood pets.

So when I thought I knew it all, once I got here I realise I know 1/10 of sweet
all

Yeah its just a matter of the fever braking, but I am more concerned about the amount he vomited and not eating or drinking.

Not sure the vet even read the note I had wriiten for him explaining things coz he thought I wanted Ryu fixed, when I had rang up thinking Diego really needs to be fixed. He was touching Ryu's testes and saying that they are far too small.
The vet has 25+ years of experience so I don't like to question his judgement apart from not neutering until cats are 8mths.

Oh I`m so glad you posted. I`ve been praying for Ryu.
I can`t believe that vet did`nt at least give him IV with fluids.
I hope you are able to get enough into him to keep him going until the fever breaks, as water is even more important than food.
So is the fever a virus rather than an infection then? (Or did they give him antibiotics?
I`m really sorry that he`s so sick. Please do keep us posted.

He's got a white medicine. All I know is its a fever.

He is eating a little more, and drinking.

His left eye has been weepy since yesterday but when I wiped it before it looked like a faint bit of blood, so keeping a close eye on that.

I hope he's feeling a lot better now. The important thing is that he's eating and drinking.

The fever must be caused by something. Since the vet prescribed medicine, he may have made a diagnosis he felt you wouldn't understand because of the language barrier, so he just put it in simple terms.

Maybe you can ask somebody in NZ to send you some baking soda, so that you have some on hand. A lot of stuff usually found in any supermarket in the U.S. can only be found at a chemist's or speciality store in Germany, too, so I know how frustrating it can get.

More for Ryu!

Yes I'm making him like jelly meat soup, but rather than just adding plain water I'm adding that mixture I made up. He's not eating much, but at least he drinks the liquid before attempting to eat.

My wife phoned the vet, and got told the samething. I thought he had found something in the stool sample he took, since he spent a bit of time looking at it and once finished immediately got the nurse to make the medicine.

Oh, he is only 1.3Kg and I've decided he's 4mths old, since he is said to be between 3, 4 and 5mths old.

I think I will just get some at a specialty shop, to keep on hand but I really pray this doesn't happen again any time soon.

He seems to be doing rather well thank you.

He's got a mean appetite again and I caught him and Neko playing together today for the first time so thats a plus.

On a side note, I think its safe to say that Ryu is our permanent, temporary kitten.
