It's horsefly season in Ohio again... they're literally everywhere. On my 15 minute drive home from work, I hit no less than 8 of them, ker-plunk-splat on my windshield, and however many on my bumper. Rode my bike to Kroger and there were some 2 dozen of them buzzing around on the windows.

In a month not a single one will remain. Anyone else have horsefly season where they're at? What's the deuce with these horseflies?

They are nasty!

There are none where I live now but I used to work at a riding school and they used to bite me through my jodhpurs. So painful!

Wishing I were anywhere but here
Don't really have problem with horseflies...but too MANY mosquitoes due to all the rain!! I get at least 10-15 bites in a 10 min period so I can't stay out long and only go out to water the plants!

Ah, the joys of living in eastern North Carolina............

Horse flys as big as your thumb, Deer flys much smaller but more persistant and mosquitos by the millions. If you're lucky all of these are busy elsewhere and all you have to contend with is an army of aggravating gnats. Watch where you step while you're swatting at the gnats, there are piles of fire ants waiting for you to trespass on their territory.

That's why I like winter and spring here best of all. None of those critters around then.

I hate horseflies...as a kid, we used to go to Lake of the Ozarks every summer for vacation in Missouri and the horseflies would hunt you down just to get a bite of you..not kidding. We used to jump into the lake to get away from them..We don't have them here in Tx, but right now we have very aggressive regular flies that are very overpopulated due to the rain, and of course the mesquitoes are really bad also..

Yeah! These things are HOOOOGE! And you can tell which had a fresh blood meal because they leave a nice red splotch on your windshield.

In Ohio you don't need to wear a helmet on a motorcycle, and this one guy I knew came into work with a huge red welt on his forehead. He didn't want to talk about it, but we all knew exactly what happened and it was pretty hard to control our laughter for the entire week whenever we saw him.
