You know those squishy balls you can buy for cats that are no bigger than golf ball? They have that glittery tinsel on them....

Anyway...Ashley is OBSESSED with those things and it is starting to drive us nuts! She isn't interested in any other toy except for those things so I don't take them away from her, but what she will do in the middle of the night is haul them around in her mouth and howl like crazy at them. I mean, it can literally wake you up from a dead sleep. My fiance' seems to think she is 'hunting' them, but really...I have no idea why she is doing this.

Any insight on what this means? Should I take them away from her??? She loves them so much so I would hate to have to do that!

Two of my cats become absolutely obsessed with certain toys...no matter which other toy we give them (even if it was last month's obsession) they won't break away from the current toy. I don't worry about it and let them play with it until they choose a new favorite. So, don't worry about the glitter balls...just let Ashley play with them until she loses interest.

My Peedoodle got a pig for christmas, he carries it everywhere now and sleeps with it. I like to think it is like a 'security blanket'

Before he got that pig, he had this white mouse and carried that EVERYWHERE!!! Now its the pig.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Our cats get obsessed with one toy for a while. It was the glitter balls for quite some time. We didn't experience howling though, so I don't know what to recommend!

My concern with the glitter balls is that tinsel. It was ALL over the house, and they had to have ingested some of that stuff. I was SO RELIEVED when they switched toys!

carrie,
My Luna has that same obsession! the only difference is, hers is with the squishy balls too! She will pick them up (but only at night) and walk around the house crying too! We usually call her and she comes into the room for belly rubs. but that only stops her for awhile, then she does it again. She was a feral cat we brought inside dec of 2001. Was your kitty a stray?

Nope. She wasn't a stray! She came from the Humane Society but I believe she was owned before as she has been fixed and everything. It is so weird, though, when she gets like that. Last night she started in and ended up dropping it at the door to our bedroom. Then I called her and she jumped up on the bed with us and started purring. It is weird!

OHH one of my cats, Spike, tend to carry around various things in his mouth- a stuffed cat, my blanket, a towel or clothes!whatever he can find that he can drag, he'd drag! It's hilarious watching this 7 mth old kitten trying to drag a queen-sized blanket in his mouth around the apt!
