In my own world, its much nicer there
If theres something wrong with Diego's co-ordination. I've noticed for a while, but am now getting concerned that when he jumps off things, he does NOT land on his feet. Although he doesn't appear to be physically injured or anything I can't help but think, this can't be doing his internal organs or his joints any good.
He jumps off the table, bench, wall cabinets and my shoulder and always goes crash, when you aren't expecting it, it can really scare the
out of you. It certainly just about gave Ryu a heart attack yesterday, when Diego crashed beside him. I think he tries to land on his feet, but they appear to give out from under him so he goes sliding along the floor on his chest, sometimes his head/face is sliding along too. Other times he lands on his side or what have you, He gets up and walks around like its perfectly normal behaviour but it is starting to upset/worry me that he might be causing himself long term damage.

Can anyone help? does anyone have or know of a cat that has or still does do this? any thoughts and comments appreciated.

Thanks. Oh and if this should have gone under health and care I apologise.

I could be missing something but, have you considered the possibility that maybe he has weak legs or something? It sounds like he's trying to land on his feet but perhaps they just give out under him?

Though if he lands on his side sometimes too... hmmm..

I hope someone replies with some actual advice! Have you talked to a vet about it?

Its hard to explain, but they don't give out, give out, its like he folds his paws sorta under himself. It looks real retarded but not like weak legs. Maybe it is, he sits a little spastic at times too.

Haven't spoken to vet coz, we have spent a small fortune recently at the vets so.... can't really afford to take him there again.

I shouldn't laugh, but I have this image in my head now and I can imagine that the first time you saw it, you probably laughed too!!

Though now he KEEPS doing it, I can see how it would be very very NOT funny!

I still think that weak legs are a possibility. Maybe he's tucking his legs in when he lands to avoid damaging them or something? It sounds like he's purposely getting his legs out of the way...

I totally understand that vet bills suck but... if it's something like weak legs, I don't think you'll find out WITHOUT a trip to the vet. ://
I personally HATE the vets too (just like I hate the doctors or the dentist) because I'm always worried they're going to tell me something horrible! I was a wreck when I had to take Shinya in for a vaccination cause I hate needles and I was like.. "POOR BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!" And Yuna has her next vaccination tomorrow too! x____x

I really hope someone else here can offer some advice that means you can avoid the vets. How long has he been doing this?

No I still generally laugh for 3 seconds then rush over pick him up rub him and ask if he's ok.
But you know how expensive vets are here, and I reckon Murphy's law will kick in, I take him to the vet, say Diego never lands on his feet, so the vet picks him up, drops him from a small height, then the little begger will land on his feet.

I love taking them to the vets coz I like to observe what the vet is doing (I once had a dream of being a vet, even tried vet nursing but I suck at math)

You can take solace in the fact that vets won't put cats and dogs to sleep no matter what, or so I heard anyway. I was scared when I took Ryu to the vet when I found him, he looked worse than he was but I half expected the vet to say, put him down.

I've actually got insurance out on both my cats so, as long as I use the vets there, I get a pretty big discount. It's still not cheap, and it involves 40mins of train travel to get there from my home in Shinjuku but it's worth it for the reduced costs. Plus, I really like it there, like the staff, and I know they know what they're talking about. But even with the discount, it's still expensive. I haven't yet had to do a basic checkup type appointment (just vaccinations and the like).. how much do they work out on average here?

What I think you need to do is run around after Diego with a pillow.. when you see him going to land, THROW IT UNDER HIM!

Poor guy though.. it HAS to hurt landing like that!!!!

I think the basic check up is 2500-3000¥ thats just a guess, we haven't taken them for a check up alone. The cost of insurance in my part here actually makes it more expensive as such, unless you need to take your cat to the vet like once a week or something.

Chase him with a pillow.

I would imagine its quite painful, coz rather than a meaty sound, it sounds like he actually lands on bones.

Hope I can get some more advice before taking him to the vet.
