Hello everyone

I am new to this forum so i hope you dont mind my joining your site and posting here.

I am English but live in Dubai now with my Hubby and our 2 Ragdoll cats Jasper and Sky.

I have a question about my girl cat Sky, she has taken to a new kind of strange behaviour which is to be fascinated by our front door. At first i thought there maybe tiny ants or something coming under the door, or a cat or something on the other side of the door, but its nothing like that. ( its a solid wood door, no glass) She sits by the door and rolls and squeaks and just stares , its very strange and sudden behaviour that she has been doing now all wk. My DH thinks its because i am pregnant and she is guarding the house, i dont buy into that theory though and just wondered if anyone knew why or have experience this with a cat

thanks for listening

There are lots of things that make the front door attractive to cats. That's where your shoes track in interesting new smells. And my cat loves to stare through the crack under the door... sometimes he's looking at another cat, but it could also be bugs or the scents that come in on the breeze.

If she saw a bug escape under the door, that would be enough to keep her looking for it for a few days afterward. My cat keeps searching for a bug even after he's eaten it...

Dear Sarah and Sky:

That's what TCS is here for -- we love new members here! Hope you'll love the site as much as we do -- it's kind of like one big happy cat-oriented cyberspace family!

Well, to begin with, I hope Sky is fixed??? That would be my first question. If she is, great; if not, I do hope you have a good doctor for her and will line up an appointment a/o. Sounds like she could be in heat.

Hello all

thanks for the welcome, yes she has been spayed so its not that.

She is 4 years old just this Spring.

She is also refusing to eat wet food as her favourite one is out of stock at the store, she is skinny anyway ( 3 Kilos, which i think is about 7lbs) so its a worry, i hope the dry food she is eatting sees her through until they get stock, either that or she gives into hunger but probably not as she is so stuborn !!

Well, my first thought was she was in heat, so it can't be that. Are there cats or other animals that might visit in the night that she's smelling?

On a different tack, you have a 4 year old Ragdoll that's only 7 pounds? That sounds really small to me. Has her health been checked recently? I would think 10 pounds for a Raggie female would be possibly the smallest that would be healthy...???

hello , yes i do worry about her being thin, but she was the runt of the litter bless her and nearly didnt survive when a kitten, she is tiny for a Raggie in her build so its not too bad really, her brother makes up for it , he is a 5-6 Kg , i think 14 lb ish boy, but i dont over feed them, i never have my cats so they are not on the massive side of the Ragdoll scale !

cheers
