CLay is LIKELY not the best for cats as they are smaller than humans and clay can cause repitory issues in humans

so excited.

His breeder said Figo isnt fussy at all. He used to eat litter when was very young, now he doesnt. So I think clumping litter is good for cleaning purposes. I just saw the Grey Master Litter in zooplus. It says it has silicate in it...can you tell me what is that and is it in any way harmful for Figo? The problem is there are so many types and brands of litter that it becomes kinda difficult to decide. I just hope he doesnt pee on the bed
Silicate is a metal salt containing silicon and oxygen. It's what the crystal litters are composed of. The Golden Grey Master is mainly clay (betonite) with some some blue silicate crystals to absorb odors.

What you have to be careful about with clay litters is the amount of dust they produce. That particular brand is relatively dust-free, but I've tried others that were horrible.

Your safest bet in the beginning is to use whatever brand the breeder does, so Figo is familiar with it.

Thanks, I has asked the breeder what she uses, but she just says you use anything you like, a tesco brand is ok...but i dont think that would be good. I also read about a litter called tidy cats....have you seen it? It says its dust free

Thanks Wickedkitten,

I saw Extreme Classic litter, can you tell me what kind of litter it is and how much dust does it produce?

Hi all,
thanks so much for your responses. Can anyone advice me if Catsan is a low dust litter or no? I also saw Tidy Cats litter which says it is virtually dust free...is that a good litter? I have already bought wbcl and catsan bag so i think buying more litter will be silly, but if i can find the ideal litter I can order it and start using it once these 2 are finished. Clumping litter is ideal but I dont want to harm Figo's lungs in any way

Catsan is fairly low dust, as is Tidy Cats. Extreme Classic has a lot of dust compared to other clumping clay litters (the most common complaint about it on European forums; it's quite good otherwise, as it forms small, hard clumps).

thanks jcat,

im very excited because tomorrow morning I drive to pick up Figo. Ive prepared his litter tray in a corner in the bathroom. I think I will try out wbcl and catsan , catsan particularly as it is readily available in the supermarkets here. Just one question, if Figo licks his paws after he has been in catsan litter, will it harm him? Im very nervous. Do you think Catsan would be a good choice? Also refreshing his litter tray once a week would be good?

Catsan should be fine, and shouldn't harm him if he licks his paws. Generally, you should scoop at least once a day, and change the litter once a week. There are some clumping litters which are good for about two or three weeks, while non-clumping should be completely changed every week.
Here's an article about litter box maintenance: http://www.thecatsite.com/Care/29/Li...intenance.html

Good luck with Figo!
