Could it be that those of us noticing the slower speeds have higher speed internet in general and so notice it in comparison, where other people who don't have such high speed connections don't notice the difference?

I am a subscriber with adverts turned off, but I have noticed that it seems to load something from the google-analytics even though it doesn't show when the pages load.

I have Cogeco Cable at 10mbps (shared over 2 computers and a VOIP phone but I generally get 6mpbs on mine)

It is the same in firefox, opera or IE7 (maybe a little worse in IE7)

It's been really, really slow. I am also a subscriber with advertising turned off and have a broadband connection.

That's interesting, as google is the only other site that is taking a long time to load for me.

When I load a page, it shows data from TCS loading 5 times then google-analytics. It seems to be hanging on the 3rd set of data from TCS and the google data.

I checked a few pages that are hanging, a thread which is 123kb took 14 seconds to load.

iGoogle at 95kb took 4 seconds

My weather station's local page is 285kb and it took 8 seconds

Well, ever since I discovered TCS, I've had the same ISP, which is a cable modem from Cox Communications. It's only the past 2 - 4 months that I've been experiencing this problem and I've been here for over a year now.

I'm a subscriber with ads turned off. I have "DSL light" at home (1mpbs), and have had a few slow times here, but only on occasion. I normally don't use IE, but tried IE7 the other day when I saw complaints here, and the pages were very slow in loading. IE6 worked fine at school when I tried.

I was using Opera with no trouble whatsoever until I updated to the latest version several weeks ago, which tends to freeze. Two patches have been issued, but I'm waiting for the next version to be released before switching back to Opera. That problem appears to be Opera, not TCS, according to some PC forums I've visited.

I'm currently using Firefox, and it's interesting that you've (Eithne) noticed a possible correlation between slow loading and google-analytics. I was having occasional trouble with TCS pages loading slowly, and got an "allow google-analytics.com" option from No Script https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 the other day. Once I white-listed it, things returned to normal speed here, and at another site (CNN) that was "hanging".

I wonder if those having trouble are, perhaps without knowing it, blocking JavaScript when viewing TCS or blocking google-analytics?

I hope that makes sense.

I don't think so....it's the browser's behavior itself when loading a page that's odd.

That's what I speculated in one of the other threads, too. But I don't know how to check. And why wouldn't it happen on other sites using the same?

Well, Google Analytics is using a tiny piece of code at the very end of the page. That means your page should be fully loaded before GA even starts working...

I guess it's not the ads either, since paying members seem to have the same problems when they have ads switched off... I know that Scott is super busy (actually moving our server accounts today! but the actual switch will probably not be today). I sent him an email, and I hope he'll take a look at this thread too. Thank you for your patience everyone!

I've deleted all my cookies, all of the sites I was blocking, and my cache. The site is now moving very fast for me.

I did have it happen on other sites, which is why I thought I'd better "white-list" google-analytics, as that was what popped up a few times. I don't know enough about computers to explain why I thought it might solve my problem, but it seems to have. At least I hope so!

As Anne says, it's obviously not the ads, since a lot of us can turn them off.

Most of the major browsers have released updated versions over the past two months in order to close security gaps; perhaps those who are having trouble have the updated versions. Or they're using the same Internet security software. Some of those packages can wreak havoc when you're surfing, as I well know.

I've been clearing my cache every other day, as it makes things go faster. Maybe those who are having trouble should try clearing their private data?

I empty mine daily along with cookies.
As I said in an earlier post....

I normally empty my cache often as well. I am wondering if it was deleting all the sites I was blocking that did it.

I just deleted everything.
We'll see if that helps.

Most of the websites I visit seem to be using it (I've been checking things out this evening), so I'm probably up the wrong creek about it.

I've been speculating, because I have a tendency to play around with stuff (as exemplified by my having four different browsers installed on my home laptop, and a hybrid ISP/phone/cable provider - don't ask, because I don't know how I managed that. My official ISP is AOL, but my DSL is provided by a company that doesn't work with AOL, and our TV and radio are from a third company. It's a great way to rebuff crazy offers from competing ISP/telecom /cable companies, though, when they call! "You have what?")

We were among the very first cable TV and Internet clients in Germany, so have been enjoying "grandfather clauses" for quite a while.

Hey!! Try this with IE 6.0:

Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom/Miscellaneous/Allow script initiated windows without size or position restraints/Enable

I have no idea what I did or how it affects my security but all of a sudden page are loading MUCH faster.

In fact... it happens with the other skins too, it does seem to be hanging as the error console finds them
