i like wildflowers, also known as "weeds". i think those perfectly manicured lawns with one type of grass are boring.
we drove by someone's house on a trip, their whole backyard was yellow dandelions (probably not on purpose) and i thought it was beautiful.

A plant is only a weed if it's growing somewhere you don't want it. Wikipedia covers it well. I'm sure your guests -- those who planted their seeds -- are enjoying their lovely flowers.

Is puple strife the stuff that grows in swampy areas? If so that I think it is pretty. I heard it's very invassive though. Of course aren't all weeds.

I personally would have been excited if I had planted them and gotten those flowers!
I totally agree.

You are taking about the HORRIBLE AND INVASIVE purple loosestrife.
You can get fined for having it on you property in WI. Its a terribly invasive plant. Yrs ago I worked on a project to introduce the galuerca (sp) bettle which is a predator to this exotic plant.
Queen Ann's lace is another one of those exotic plants that is way to spready for me. There are so many native species that can't compete with all these exotic species.

Yeah, I wouldn't plant that purple stuff in my yard but I think it's pretty in the wild.

Sure! PM me your address and I'll get some in the mail for you. Like I said, I have a ton!

I looked online for that purple loosestrife, and thankfully, we don't have that around here. This isn't exactly a wet area...we live on top of a mountain and most of the soil is shale, so I shouldn't have to worry about that.

We got that same thing from a friend at their wedding. Before we left our place (farm), I sprinkled them out back with the other "wild flowers"...so we don't know if they are weeds or flowers out there.....

But I've seen DANDILIONS packaged to plant......why ANYONE would deliberately plant those things, they have to be out of their minds!

I love wildflowers! Especially if they are hard to kill and non-toxic to cats and dogs.
It's the sentiment that counts, and I think the idea is so romantic!

When I was a waitress at the country club as a teenager, I served for a huge wedding and one of the favors were these lovely silver planters with a packet of rose seeds. To my surprise almost all the guests left their favors behind, so I took about 20 of these things home and a bunch of extra packets. I was all excited about the rose garden I was gonna create. I followed the directions carefully and nothing happened. I took the seeds to a garden center, and they had no success with them either. They said they might have been sterilized (?) at some point during the processing and packaging. Weird.

Aww, that's sad. I do love roses. That's my project for next spring...rose bushes. Oh, believe me, I think these wild flowers are very hard to kill! The other planters have petunias, gardinias, marigolds, etc...and the last few downpours we have had did major damage to the blooms. But, the weeds are doing great! Seriously, if anyone wants any seeds....please pm me! I have a box full of them. You will even get our bookmark wedding thing as a bonus!
