Hello all,

Our 2-year old Siamese mixed cat, Maddie, has always loved running water, but lately it has gotten worse. For most of her life, she would meow at us (sometimes loudly) to turn on the bathroom faucet for her. Other times, she would wait patiently by the bathroom. If she detects any possibily of our walking into the bathroom, she would run in before us, sit on the sink, and rub her face on the faucet. Essentially pleading with us to turn on some running water.

Usually we ignore her. After only a few minutes, she would stop meowing and find some other diversion. Lately, however, since the recent death of her mother Nimwe, Maddie has been more insistent with her urgings for the faucet (and thus definitely more annoying). We even timed her meows to last over an hour!

I can guess that the loss of her mother has upsetted her and she finds some measure of comfort with running water.

Is there any help for our poor kitty? Is this a behavior problem? I am afraid that it is a symptom of a much greater problem. Any way to solve this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Why not invest in a fountain just for your cat? That way she has clean running water at her disposal? I have one kitty who will not drink out of the other water bowls. Instead she insists on a coffee cup full of water in one spot in the bathroom. It is to weird, but it is what she likes.

Follow the link and scroll down to the last listing: Stroller Falls and check out the running fountains for kitties.Stroller Falls

Buy your sweet kitty a Drinkwell fountain. This is a drinking fountain made just for cats. It runs continuously and has a reservoir of water that will keep it from running out quickly.

If you go to meowhoo.com you can find one to order. I'll look for a link and be back in a minute.

Hissy, I can't help but laugh - how on earth did your cat tell you exactly the type of coffee cup, and the precise spot in the bathroom to put it?

Of course Sam won't drink from a pet water dish - he drinks from the dripping faucet in the tub. If I forget to leave it dripping, he'll fall asleep in the tub waiting for it to start. He also loves drinking from the fish tank, and now from his brand new water dispenser with the expensive bottled water that he got for Christmas from his human auntie.
