I've been searching online for some ideas because I need to replace my mailbox and wanted something.. I don't know... nicer or different or... I don't know, something...

Anyway, I came across this picture and man... I have to give this guy/girl some credit... That's pretty creative!

...and since thats not a cat-related box, I figured I'd share these too:

Those are really cool. But because of ID theft getting so bad (and for other reasons) we have all our mail delivered to the post office. Much safer then having mail delivered at home.

Many thieves will just stop right by the mailbox (especially in the country) and steal your mail right out of the box without you knowing it!

Oh and one more thing. NEVER put the red flag up when you are leaving mail for the mailman to pick up - that's an open invite to the thieves to pick up your mail before the mailman does! Always go to the post office and drop it off or have someone drop it off for you.

My fave was the cat in the mailbox.
Imagine he'd give the postie quite a fright!

We'd love to get something neat but considering what the current box has been through (at one point we had it duct taped to the post) I think we'll stick to the basic box with the legible number.
Even now the post is listing to the north...

The gun is unique! Someone put a lot of work into that. Love the cyclist - can you imagine being that postperson?
I like the black cat one as a real box

That's a unique mailbox!! But I'm sure it was put up before the USPS started requiring mailboxes to meet their specifications. I need to put up a new mailbox, too, and so looked into this. Now they only allow mailboxes from approved manufacturers and they have to be installed a certain way. (Unless you get approval from PO -- which I have no idea how to do or how hard to get.) Details from USPS starts here:

BajaOklahoma, should be 200 miles north
Years ago, we lived on a curving street. Our mailbox was hit several times.
We finally got a piece of oil well drilling pipe to use as the post. If a vehicle hit, it would take out part of the vehicle.
Never had to replace it.

Someone on our road had a big brick mailbox. They were told to replace it because it was damaging the cars that hit it!

I had a professor who had problems with vandalism to his box so he got a boulder and hollowed out a space for the box. Some "idjits" with a 4 wheel drive managed to drag it around his yard.
