And the great ratings that Fox gets, but geesh, talk about sour grapes.

As the Home Depot spokesman said, companies are going to advertise, where their customer base is. If Fox is getting the demographic, that advertisers want, they're going to continue to advertise there. You don't see ads for Preparation H or Centrum Silver, on MTV, do you?

lol i love how they list DailyKos , that site is marked as a hate site at work.
and they are kinda right.

What a load of....

Fox News isn't any more biased than CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS or NBC. The difference is that it's biased in a different way than the public is used to seeing, and that MoveOn doesn't like. Terrible thing, the way that the bias in the media is used to influence the public - especially when the ratings show that it's going against your point of view.

I have officially given up on cable news, all of them. The Paris thing did it for me.
The news networks priorities those mornings made me ill!

"3 US Marines were killed when........oh wait, we have to go live to LA, Paris is outside the house hugging her mom!!!"

Now I get my news off the internet, from Reuters and the AP

Scott and I watch a lot of Fox News despite not agreeing with all their conservative viewpoints, they do provide good news. I do agree a lot with Bill O'Reilly, like on immigration and Jessica's Law (scary I know). I say, you need to watch a variety to get other views. However, Fox News's parody to John Stewart....stinks. I also like the Daily Show. It's important to watch all viewpoints when watching the news so you don't become close minded.

The advertisers are simply expanding their audience and not limiting it to a certain viewer (which is brilliant for business).

I don't watch CNN for anything more than entertainment. I don't use it as a news source any more.

I get my news from NPR.

Well gee, most networks are pro-Dem/Lib and you have a network that is more conservative and people are complaining??????

Doesn't seem fair to me. Why should you have only a ONE sided view of things?

To some people, "free speech" only applies to speech that THEY agree with.

Yes, they're all biased these days. No more Walter Cronkite. But I think Fox News is more overt about revealing their bias. The others maintain they're neutral, but aren't. I think the public needs to realize that there's a large grey area between straight news coverage and editorializing that most new organizations fall into by choice or by default, and their coverage needs to be viewed as being told from a point of view.

This is why I don't watch any of the news. There is no real middle of the road with any station. I'm not completely conservative, or liberal. It's almost impossible to get straight news on television without some kind of "spin" on it. And the Paris Hilton coverage on every station made me want to throw up while I working out in the gym at 5:30 in the morning. I'm going to have to start getting my news info from those above sources.

I get alot of my news from Drudge. Great website, albeit conservative leaning.

It would be very nice if the networks were neutral, but that's not gonna happen! Or if they didn't want to be totally neutral, would address the issues from BOTH sides in giving coverage.

I know that in our state capital the local newspaper is very biased towards Democrats because of how they write up various rallys on issues held at the State capital. They underestimate the numbers of people in a conservative rally and overstate the numbers in a liberal rally. This was obvious on 2 "marriage" rallys held within the same week from opposite sides.

The sad thing is that there are still so many people who don't understand that the news can be biased based on how and what they report on, and what they choose to exclude. It doesn't have to be an overt bias.

I'll agree that Fox doesn't hide its bias, but that doesn't make the ones who deny their bias any different. If nothing else, I think that Fox News having the opposite bias has opened people's eyes about how slanted all news coverage has become over the years. Seriously - how could anyone think that a network owned by Ted Turner, Mr. Jane Fonda at the time, wasn't biased?

What!?!? Jane Fonda?!? Biased?!?!

First let me say that I will be cautious in this thread because the last political thread I got involved in, I ended up feeling like the anti-christ.

But here are my:

I am conservative and I love Fox news--the only one I will watch. Like they say, "its not the mainstream media" and they do make a conscious effort to be "fair and balanced".

Love it or hate it, I don't understand how anybody could say with a straight face that any American media outlet is unbiased. They're not. They all have an agenda. Maybe the fact that Fox's 'fans' are heavily conservative is a clue as to what sort of bias they have...

Sorry to intrude on your guys' We-Love-Fox rally, but it worries me when people actually believe it has no slant.

I was confused by the "not mainstream media" part. They get stories from the AP and newswire, add their little touches of finesse to them, and have news anchors air them on airwaves that can be viewed anywhere in the world with satellite access.

What else do you have to do to be mainstream?

By that, Fox means to separate themselves from all the other presumably liberal media. They present themselves as something new and different, an alternative to the other ones... *sigh* I remember when they (referring to all of them) at least pretended to try not to be opinionated and add their little comments to everything. Even the local anchors have to get their snide little comments in.

Well, when I'm out in my canoe and come upon a river island, the part of the river flowing around the island that is widest is the mainstream. Maybe the media is talking about how big their airwaves are?

Ah, I see: he who has the biggest transmitter wins.

I agree.

Thing is, I think that everyone who watches Fox KNOWS that they have a bias. And we know exactly what that bias is; Fox doesn't hide it like the other networks did/do. However, they really do try to present both sides. When they have guest commentators in to debate a subject (and I'm not talking about opinion shows like The O'Reilly Factor), both sides are represented. When they talk about a political story, they have a representative from both (main) parties - people who work for the parties, not just some numbnuts they pulled from the streets up against a conservative professor.

The Fox opponents seem to always point straight to Bill O'Reilly. He's got a one hour show that is his opinion/commentary show. He is not the news, nor is he the majority of what airs on the network.

IMO, everyone interested in "balanced" news should also watch FreeSpeechTV and WorldLink news, as well as the others, including CSPAN, and then decide for themselves....It's a CAT thing to do
