I was wondering why my cat scratches at his neck and the side of his face all the time? He usually does it when I'm petting him on his head or rubbing under his chin. Sometimes he acts like his ears itch too. I've checked them and don't see any mites or anything. They don't stink either. At most his ears look a little dirty once and awhile.

I've never seen any fleas and he has a white chest so they'd be easy to spot there.

Ear mites can look like dirty ears so he may well have mites.

As for fleas they do like the head and neck area. If you can get a flea comb at the pet store it would be a good idea to run it through his coat. Get a dish and fill it with water and dish detergent (Dawn is good) before starting the combing. After each run-through with the comb, dip it in the soapy water. If there are any fleas they will drown in the solution.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a vet look at him to ensure he has no ear mites. Then once that was ruled out and fleas are ruled out, then you could be looking at food allergies.
