I have been struggling with a UTI cat. I have been checking everything to see if they are eating correctly etc. I just found out today when my husband feeds the cats in the morning , he has been mixing a teaspoon full of pumpkin in their food. I only used it when they had loose stool. I read that pumplin is very alkaline and for healthy urinary tract it should be acidic. am i way off here? Should i let my husband live?

Pumpkin probably does have an alkaline effect on the urine, as many vegetables do. I don't think it's the cause of your cat's trouble, but it wouldn't hurt to eliminate that and save it for those times when it's needed.

If the whole problem is bacterial infections, then chances are kitty's pH runs high (alkaline) - at least during the infections....and the case would be the same with struvite crystals. There are urinary/bladder problems that occur in acidic urine though. It's not as common, but something to keep in mind. Not every cat w/bladder problems requires acidification.
