I've had a bad day and am tired and cranky and have just discovered my credit card is missing.

I went to the post office this afternoon and couldn't send the package I needed to (I had a watch I was sending to Australia for a friend, and apparently jewelry is prohibited), so I had the box and the customs forms in my hands and I remember walking out of the post office thinking I had to put my card away when I had a free hand. No idea what happened to my card after that though

DH and I have searched everywhere. Now I have to cancel it. Such a pain.

Actually you know I had a pretty good day, I'm just completely and utterly wiped out and feeling pretty cranky.

Now I'm dealing with an idiot call centre woman who keeps asking the same information.

Well, my first response is, Jewelry? Prohibited? For goodness' sake, WHY?

And my second is... sheesh, I'm sorry. I know how that is, you don't want to hold up the person behind you in line, so you hurry away, and sometimes you lose track of your things. It's possible they have it at the post office for you, but I guess it's really not safe to wait and check before cancelling. Someone could charge a Maserati on your card before the post office opens.

Just as SW said, let it go... sleep peacefully... keep working on that baby...

Oh grrrr!!! I can't do any online banking now until I receive my new card on August 6 (DH and I have a shared account, and he can still access it luckily). I don't know what automatic payments come from my card.

Useful advice for everyone - keep a list of automatic charges to your cards. eg.

Electricity - sarahp Blahbank credit
Gas - sarahp Blahbank debit
Netflix - DH Blahbank credit (ooh I think Netflix is my card...)

etc.

Unfortunately it used to be the case of no one charging things, now with identity theft its a huge growing problem with no easy/quick solution. We live in a small country town - in the past year (since we've been down here) we have 2 cases (one just a few weeks ago involving an 18 yr old ID theft victim) of ID theft. One involved SSN theft, the other a medical theft.

And my DH witnesses someone in town stealing mail from a neighbor's mailbox!

So don't think it only happens in big cities - its in EVERY town now.
