Last year at about this tme, Lisa and I noticed that our tuxedo cat Austin was feeling badly. He seemed to lack energy, though he ate, drank, and went to the bathroom normally. This year, the same thing is happening. He seems tired, and he keeps licking his lips. I checked his gums and they look fine there's no blood in his stool (I think), he just seems tired. I'm worried because Austin's son ehibitited similar behavior just before he died of congenital heartfailure.
What could be wrong with Austin? Does he just have the holidy blahs, orcould it be something more serious?

Cats don't normally get holiday blahs, people do. I would take him to be checked just to be safe. He could of gotten into something that disagreed with his system, or it could be nothing. But one vet visit will bring peace of mind.

Austin is going to the vet today, but don't tell him that!

You'd be surprised how emotive Austin can be. Now, I don't believe in anthropomorphisizing animals -that is, attributing human behaviors to them- outside of fiction, but Austin's humanty startles me sometimes! He expresses a wide range of emotions . . . or at least I think he does!

Well keep us updated on what the vet says, but this has created a question in my mind. Can cats get deppresion in the winter because of lack of sun just like humans? The fact that he had similar problems last year is what brought that question to mind, but I agree that the best thing is a trip to the V E T. I always spell it in front of my cat because I swear she knows what i'm saying.

I was just wondering if Austin is reacting to changes in the normal household routine due to the holiday. This type of thing might cause him some stress. I am glad you are taking him to the vet today, please update us.

Just got back from the V-E-T. Austin got a clean bill of health. Physically, he is a healthy and normal puss. But, emotionally, I think all the bags and boxes of the Christmas season may be upsetting him.
He's currently shunning me, but he'll be just fine.
