......On a 15 year old cat, with the knock out gas and all I mean. We have a cat that's 15 with tumors, overweight and has bad teeth, (well his teeth ARE getting better and the tumor were harmless fatty growths)

I'm thinking of taken him in when I get the new kitten hs rabies shot and final boster.

I know as animals get older the anesthesia risk gets a little greater - I'm not an expert though... I thought about this situation with Oliver last summer (he's only 5 though)... he's a bugger about letting me brush his teeth, so I asked what my vet thought (a trusted friend) at his check up last year and she said he wasn't due for a cleaning yet.... but if she had suggested it I was going to ask about less stressful teeth cleaning procedures... I've heard of vets that will do more of just a scraping while the animal is awake... I assume this would depend on the state of the teeth and the willingness of the cat to cooperate, but just a thought

Do a Senior panel... My Kandie went under at age 18 ... with CRF .. the vet used a DIFFERENT way to put her under , she had pre op and post op anitbiotics and fluids

Ooo yeah, I didn't think of alternate types of sedation... I don't know if this type of thing is available for animals yet, but when my mom had surgery for her breast cancer, they used some new type of anesthsia which didn't make her sleep for 3 straight days or make her sick after which the regular type always did to her... I don't know the exact name for it, but like I said, it might not even be available for pets yet, but I would ask about alternate methods
