Should I keep trying with other wet food?

Riley is currently eating:

California Natural Dry (free feed)

and Merrick Wet (1/2 of a 3oz can in morning, 1/2 at night, somtimes a spoonful more for a treat when he seems hungry)

I have tried introducing other wet foods, Felidae, California Natural, Eagle Pack, and Wellness. He really wants nothing to do with them and has narrowed down his Merricks to three flavors he will eat. Grammie's Pot Pie, Turducken and Southern Delight (it seems the least fishy of the fishy ones, and he really loves it).

My question is, should I keep trying to get him to accept another wet brand, so I can use it in rotation, or just give up and leave him with the Merricks only?

ETA: Also, is it canned pumpkin I can give him for hairballs? Would this be used in place of the brown hairball goop he has now, or do I need to use both? How often should he have the pumpkin?

Thanks!

Personally I'd definitely keep trying for other brands just for variety. Try mixing just 1/8 of wet with Merrick, gradually increase until he will eat other brands by themselves. You can also try sprinkle some parmesan cheese- my cats devour anything with it on top.

Not sure about pumpkin for hairballs. I give it daily to help kitties to 'get things going' while once a week I still offer them 1 tsp of hairball goop.

I think the canned pumpkin is for stool issues, not hairballs. You can add salmon oil to his wet food, I believe, to help with the hairballs. It's all about extra lube in the tube.

I went through about $80 in trying all different brands & flavors of wet with Ginger, and she chose Tuna & Shrimp Meow Mix ONLY. So I'd say if you have three flavors of the Merricks that he'll eat now, that's pretty good, and it's up to you if you want to keep trying new ones on him over time.

True, Alley would only eat one flavor dry and NO wet or people food, so its definitely a good thing Riley isn't quite that picky. I ordered a case each of the Merrick flavors so he better not change his mind about those!

Maybe I'll get a can of something else to mix in here and there, just to see if he changes his mind later

Ugh, not sure I could stand the smell of that!

So pumpkin is used for hairballs, not just diarreah?
