Hi, I am new to the forum. We have 2 cats..Ari is 5 years old and female. Nick is ayear and a half old. They were both doing fine until we had a party on July 4. I am not sure what scared Nick, but now he is fearful and hiding and urinating and pooping in the dining room. He has had a clean bill of health from the vet. The vet suggested that I confine him to one room for two weeks to "retrain" him.

I have put him in my office with a clean litter box, his bed, food and toys. Is this the correct thing to do? It's breaking my heart to have him isolated like this. Am I doing the correct thing?

Something probably scared him when he was using the litter box. You need to buy a new one that he doesnt associate with the old, especially since this started happening suddenly and the vet ruled out any health issue.

And possibly move it to another location and see if he will use it without being confined.

Thanks for the help.

Nick used his litterbox last night when he was confined. I have put new litter boxes all over so I don't have to confine him. We will see how he does tonight.

If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know.
