I haven't flown in a long time, and the last time, international travel + baggage handlers destroyed my suitcase
(actually, they broke off the stand/wheel part on one side, so it's "lame" and will fall over unless you're stabilizing constantly!)

Where do you get a decent suitcase for less than $150?

I'm looking for one with wheels, can be hardsided or softsided.

I'm not sure if you have a TJ Maxx near you- but the ones near us have some awesome products that are really discounted!
I'd give them a try if you have one near you- they have some really good quality products for a reasonable price.http://www.tjmaxx.com/about.asp

My favorite suitcase is an Eddie Bauer brand that I picked up at Target. It's expandable and has a zip-out garment bag. It's soft-sided with wheels. I've had it for about four years, and I travel about once a month on business, and the airlines have not yet been able to destroy it. (Though they have lost it a couple times.
) It also rolls very well. (They aren't all created equal...some are harder to pull when they're loaded than others.) I know it was less than $150...I wanna say it was around $100, but it was so long ago I don't know for sure. I like it way better than some that I've bought that were way more expensive.

We bought new luggage last year. It's the Eddie Bauer line, in which we got three piece sets for somewhere around $130 CAD, I think. We've been very pleased with these. We're not heavy travellers, but these were bought with a trip to Mexico (last year) in mind, and have served well, then and since. Eddie Bauer is available at Target.

ETA: Great minds think alike.

Mine are some brand called 'Atlantic' and they have wheels and extendable handles, and the little one nests inside the big one. They're hardsided, and they have been on many trips and seem to be holding up.

They have 4-pc sets online for 150$, I would recommend them.

Instead of nice luggage, I bought a collapsible wheeled cart that I can strap all my bags onto -- one handle to deal with, very easy. I can even strap my purse onto it if I need to, which really helps at times. (The bags themselves are all inexpensive softside zip-ups, so even if they got lost, it wouldn't be a disaster.)

Aha! Somewhat nearby, there's a TJ Maxx and a Target (I'll check for the Eddie Bauer line that people posted about)! I'm looking for one with wheels or legs that won't get broken off easily, and around 28" upright. The luggage cart idea is not bad, but I think for all the connections I'll have to make for international flights, it'll be hard (sometimes, I end up running to the next gate
)
, and knowing me, I'd probably end up spilling stuff all over the place

The ticket is going to be around $1500-1800 coach
, so I'm hoping for a sturdy suitcase well under $100
, but I guess you get what you pay for!
