If a cat is making a coughing type of sound, not throwing up, not sneezing or discharge/drainage, just the sound.... is that a sig of anything in particular? The start of a URI? Worms? Any thoughts? I have one cat and one kitten doing this.

It could be anything...but if they haven't been wormed,my first thought would be roundworms. That's how they migrate from larvae pockets in their body..they travel to the lungs where they are coughed up,then swallowed.
