My Popsie just recently turned sixteen and I keep getting this nagging feeling that he won't be with me much longer. It doesn't make sense because he's very healthy and still active. Does anyone think I can be picking up some sort of silent signal from him or am I just being paranoid because he's getting old?

Have you had a senior panel done recently? Maybe it is time to have a complete work-up done.

This is such a hard thing, for any one to feel and/or to give honest advice/opinion about! I always say trust your instincts when it comes to cats, dogs, animals of that close relationship. Usually that is regarding if they are acting different, possibly sick or injured, an infection or something we can't see. Especially cats, they don't really ever show pain, they show the difference that is necessary for them to avoid the pain. In a way, this is similar in the sense that your feelings may be his feelings. Not that he is about to leave you, but that he is getting old, and not the kit he use to be. Don't want to scare you, it's just as an elder family member, you simply don't want to loose them. 16 is a strong age for a cat, you may have a few more years with him! Just be sure to give him the senior discounts!
A year and a half ago I lost Sweety at 16, she was as strong as an ox! Climbing the side of a door frame to the top right up to her last month. I lost her suddenly to congestive heart failure, it all happened in 2 days (thank god for her was only). I was always babying her since she was an elderly girl, then she would climb the door frame and shock me! It was so hard loosing her

I baby him very much. He's my my sweetums. I'm sorry to hear about your cat cheylink. I'm just so amazed that Popsie hardly shows his age. He'll have his days but mostly he's still full of mischif and trouble. The only way he's shows his age is that he's thinned over the years and he's gotten grays in black fur. I just love him so much and I guess I know he can't be with me forever. Well, he will be in Spirit but you know what I mean.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I feel the same exact way!!!!!
My Mutty is almost 17, i've had her since I was 9 years old....and I know she has health problems (mainly just really overweight, which I've been trying for YEARS to get a handle on).

As soon as possible, she's getting a full senior check-up, money's just been tight with fixing and taking care of the new cats.

I don't know what I'll do when she's gone, I just want her last years with me to be as happy and healthy as possible.

It's something I seriously think about everyday to prepare myself because I know it's going to destroy me.
