I've heard that giving male cat's any seafood flavored products can cause urinary issues. Is this true?

To some extent...yes.

It mainly aggravates existing urinary problems...but consistently feeding foods high in magnesium (like fish, seafood) could be asking for trouble in a cat that doesn't have urinary problems. I do feed fish, but very rarely is it a completely "fishy" flavor...we do a lot of poultry/fish blends.
Oh, and I don't let my bladder-problem boy have it except for maybe a rare treat.

That goes for any cat, male or female. The only difference is that the same problems are more complicated in a male.

Well that sucks!

My Boo absolutely loves those Whiskas Purrfectly Fish (Tuna & Whitefish) entrees! It's one of the 'wet' foods that I can guarantee she will eat...

After reading through some of the threads here (and btw, you guys are amazing! How did I survive before this board???), I've decided to try and switch her to wet food, only, as well (no intent on thread jacking, sorry!). Right now she grazes on dry and I feed her 'wet' in the evening. But, I also want to wait until after our yearly vet visit, tomorrow...so I can discuss some of these options with her new vet.

I've never had a problem with her water intake, though...if anything, most of her litter box messes are big pee clumps!
So is it only the high magnesium content that does it? Even if she's an avid water drinker? I'd hate to take away (or majorly cut down) her one favorite 'wet' food!

Personally, if Boo hasn't had any bladder trouble and that food is *the* wet food she's willing to eat, then I would still feed it. Eventually I'd be trying to move to some higher quality food.

Will do! Hopefully, at one point, it will no longer interest her or just be a rare 'treat'!
