Is it normal for a cat to "snore" while awake??

Stumpy has always been a loud breather, and regularly snores while sleeping. At the moment she's lying on the couch awake (her eyes are open and she's watching me), but she's snoring.

Is this normal for a cat to be a heavy breather like that, or could it be a sign of something more serious??

Ferris does it, but only when he's really relaxed. It cracks me up, actually. I freaked out the first time I heard him doing it, especially after some TCS folks said it could be asthma, but he has no trouble breathing at all, even when he's roughhousing.

I'll be sitting quietly, reading, and I'll hear this tiny snoring sound, look over, and he'll be staring at me through half-closed lids.

I have found over the years, that most males in love tend to be heavy breathers!!!

If that's true, then why doesn't he...oh, wait. He DOES make a snorting noise when he eats...

Ok, as long as it's normal!! She was pretty sleepy, and pretty relaxed, so I guess that's all it is. She does it when she's had a big laser pointer session and is all tuckered out as well.

Although, I posted this almost 4 hours ago and she hasn't moved from the couch since then, and she'd been on the couch at least 30 minutes to an hour before I posted. I've turned the air conditioning on in case she was just hot, and she stil hasn't moved. The other girls were just playing, and Stumpy normally joins in, but she ignored them.

I hate when they act more lethargic than usual...
