Stumpy is really bad right now. He has Plasmocytic Stomatitis, an auto-immune disease that has attacked his mouth. He's in pain and none of the medication is working for him. My vet is good but I think this disease is out of her league. I've spent the last few hours trying to find a specialist in the area that is very versed in oral diseases, and also up on current medical research. There are newer drugs available for his condition but most vets are unwilling to prescribe them because they are not current on their research. Of all the web sites that I've gone thru, I have 1 slim possibility. The cat clinics appear to be useless in this area (one even promoted declawing your cat).

I am really good at calling around and interviewing potential vets. Barring calling every single office in the Kansas City area, does anyone have any creative ideas on how to find a really qualified vet and very quickly? I know web sites don't tell the full story, and I'm not fully confident in a referral from my vet right now (long story).

The clock is ticking here. I'm don't have time to find one thru trial and error. He refused his canned food dinner tonight which was the only practical way I had to give him his medications (I had to hand pill him and he screamed in pain). I've met all of the vets used by the Humane Societies and they don't have the qualifications I'm looking for.

Yes, I'm beginning to panic. Sorry for the ramble.

I have no suggestions, but I really hope you can find a vet for Stumpy!
