Do you do any traveling until Sept? Perhaps she could come back home with you to foster until they find her a place?

Is there no way she can travel with you? She's young enough she might adjust to it easily....

I don't travel until September...I was actually thinking of taking her with me in September by plane...usually though I cannot take her because we travel as military by plane. Even though it is commercial air, I wouldn't want her up and down that many times on short trips. But September I was thinking about bringing her.

Is the shelter going to acopt her out? Why don't you give them a chance to adopt her out till you return in sept. If she is still there, then go get her.

IMO, I wouldn't take her back if I was going to be traveling that much. It's really not fair to her. A kitten should grow up in a stable environment, which this isn't going to be "stable" for her. What I mean is that she's not going to grow up in just one place and you're talking about this going on for "a few years". I would wait until after this is over to take in another. If we traveled like that, there is no way that we would have the animals we have. If my husband and I were, both, working full time jobs, we wouldn't have what we do, but since I'm a stay-at-home mom, it's not hard. Also, I don't know how the adoption statistics are in your area, but, here, it's much harder to adopt out a 6-10 month old kitten than it is to adopt out one younger, especially a tabby. If you keep her that long, you could actually hurt her chances of getting adopted. This is just my opinion.

Keep her..

My opinion is this... It takes special people to foster, and they are abandoned animals that need us. Yes bad things happen as in the ringworm, but your doxie will be okay.. Talk to the shelter, they may help with a voucher or something...

Talk to friends see if they'll keep her while your gone... If you take her back, they may put her to sleep.. She deserves to live.. and with that many cats, she's just a penny in a dozen.. Not really noticeable..

Do what you can, and remember why your doing it,, for the safety of that little kitten..

It's just IMHO...

Well I talked to the shelter today; they all but begged for me to take her. I explained the situation to the first woman, who was really concerned if I had someone that could kitty-sit at my place or watch her at theirs (which I do, except I have to pay, but the end result is the same). After I explained that I did, then she said by all means take the kitten (who is recovering from the ringworm nicely). But I re-emphasized my concerns so she put me on with the manager or whatever you would call it of the shelter who echoed the first woman and said she hopes to see me pick her up Saturday.

I am leaning towards adoption but the experience and concern of the people on this site have swayed me ever so slightly in the other direction. Furthermore, I have to wonder if they are just desperate to find a home and no matter what situation arises (provided I don't say I am going to beat her or something) they are going to say adopt.

If they are that desparate, and her chances of being adopted are slim to none, then perhaps you should keep her. Are they showing her now for adoption. I would give them a little time to adopt her, if no takers, then get her, but she may not be a happy camper being shlepped around, and she might be lonely.

if there are so many cats at this shelter all ready I really think you should keep her, you sound like a loving owner if there is this cat lovin boarder I would do it. I think at a young age they can adjust to this easily if shown love & attention by the people boarding her. my friend travels a lot and another friend watches that cat quite often and the cat is fine with it. i move more often then I should and my cats adjust pretty quickly. Besides, the cat could be pts or end up in a worse situation then simply going to a boarder some of the time. good luck in what ever you decided!

I think you should keep her. If you have this great boarder to look after her while you go. Also a cat is a long term responsibility so who knows in a year or two maybe your job will change again so you won't have to travel as much.

Especially if the shelter is as crowded as it is. You're obviously a caring person and responsible with your pets. Otherwise you wouldn't be worrying. It's not optimal to have to travel this much but both humans and pets are adaptable so I think you'll manage to make it work for you.

I did, and super glad that I did. My neighbor is going to watch her at my condo for free and she spends the entire day cuddled up next to my Doxie. They are already inseparable.

I am so glad it worked out

edit: I think not many people voted because it was a toughy. Considering how many cats are pts every day, I think you did the right thing. This is one lucky little girl

Your other option was to get married quickly to someone who loves cats and could stay with her while you were away

I agree with not taking him back. As long as he goes to a no kill shelter that you have to pay a good chunk of money to adopt him. He needs someone to play with.
