Has anyone successfully trained their kitten to drink from a syringe or kitten bottle? I'm going on a 12 hr road trip, and had read that bottle/syringe training is the easiest way to make sure they get enough water without having a mess in the carrier.

Moses is 5 mos, and LOVES cantalope juice, so I am trying to get him to take a bottle using that, so far he will lick the nipple, but won't drink.

Any ideas? (Or any alternative ideas to make sure he gets enough liquids during the trip? It'll be about 110 F the whole drive, and we're hoping my AC will keep up)

We've done 10 hr trips in the car. I've found it easier to stop every3 or 4 hours for a drink and a bathroom break. If the AC doesn't work, just open the vents and let the air move around - I've driven through the Mojave Desert without AC, though I don't recommend it.
Any chance you could drive at night, when it is cooler?

Well, we are planning on leaving very early in the morning, so it'll be cool for the first 5 or so hours at least.

We will be able to stop every 4 hrs or so, I was just concerned that in the heat that would be too long to go without a drink.

You may be able to train him to use a water bottle - like for a rabbit or hamster. All of my show cats will use these, and I train my kittens starting when they are about 8 weeks old. You just need somewhere to hang the bottle while you're at home. You can put a little chicken broth (no onion or garlic) in the bottle and fill the rest with water. If there is no interest, put a little baby food meat on the end of the tube. If you're successful at home, then you can attach the bottle to the door of the carrier and you won't have to worry about him not drinking enough.
