I hate doctors.....

And I mean that literally. I made a post about a female issue last night. And today is the 9th day and still going. So this morning I called every doctor and health dept. within 50 miles of here. I can not afford a regular GYN prices just to talk to them was 220-250 or more. The urgent care place can not do any gyn stuff so thats out. ER don't wanna go there for this. And the health dept. can't get me in till the end of August. So the end result is go in at the end of August.

Then my mom gotta love her said I could be going into early menopause knowing our family history. Man this is no fun and I am hating life right now.

ugh, gotta love the US health care system.

ok, im gonna ask,lol. How old are you? have you had any REAL problems with TOM being off? do you take vitamins? hows your health otherwise?

I will be 27 the end of July. Health is good and I take a multivitamin everyday. Do real issues until the past year. This year things have gotten pretty messed up. Being late, being 2 weeks apart, lasting 3 days, lasting 7 days, lasting 9 days and counting. Plus my family history. 3 hysterectomies before age for for early menopause, endo, or fibroid tumors. 2 sister's have endo but have not had the surgery.

Nope can't afford one. Prices are in the 200-300 range to see one around here.

I will. Right now I would be happy just for the PMS this month to just stop. 9 days is just to long.

if you dont make alot of money, you might qualify for the social services version of medical care. that way you can get seen, and it wont cost you much, its worth lookin into.

I had to do that when i was 22. i had little to no $$, and had a kidney stone that required surgery. once i applied for the insurance, i was covered, and didnt pay out of pocket.

i know it sounds silly, but try the extra strength Midol. It never worked for me till they changed the formula, now it works great. its worth a try

Can't get that here unless you are preggo, have zero income, or maybe dieing you can get it.

well, if you cant get to a doc, try this. i drank this once a day for months. worked to stabilize my TOM, and relieve cramping, excess bleeding and no spotty bleeding, and it tastes good. i use this before i head off to the doc.

Any particular reason you have no insurance?

Is there a free clinic in your area other than health services? A lot of areas a normal day clinic will do a free clinic a couple nights a week - its usually urgent care so they would take you.

Other than that you might want to just do the ER at the county hospital - ER really is medicine for the uninsured. People go all the time for non-emergency things. You'll have to wait but you'll get seen. If its bad enough and you're at the county hospital they'll tout you upstairs to specialists otherwise you can just get your mind put at ease a month and a half earlier than the health department.

His work offers it but its too expensive and doesn't cover much.

No free clinics in my town. Done tried that. We do have a urgent care walkin type clinic which I did call. They do not do any gyno stuff I asked. Right now I don't plan to hold up the ER with this.

How big is your town? Can you go to Atlanta or somewhere that has a decent healthcare setup for uninsured people? With your family history, it's true this might be nothing serious -- but it could be life-threatening, and catching it now instead of a month from now could make a huge difference.

If you have to go to the ER, go. I understand your reluctance, but... this is scary stuff.

My town is small 10,000 or less people. Atlanta is a long long way from here. I am down in rural South Ga.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling awful. Unfortunately you're in a small town, rural area. If you're near a teaching hospital at all, there are usually associated free clinics nearby. Could you make a special trip out of it? What about applying for emergency financial assistance? Is there an OB/GYN or Family Medicine doc who would be willing to work out a payment plan? Many doctors are willing to do this, even at a cost to themselves, esp. if you're a longtime patient.

P.S. Isn't illegal to turn people away? I've seen people get off the plane from faraway places (saw a couple people from Bangladesh and the Carribean during my medicine rotation), stroll in, and get bypass surgery, colonic resection, etc. w/o insurance.

Its illegal for any hospital to turn a patient away in the case of emergency. And the county ER is required to take any patient at all EVENTUALLY- but she's already said she doesn't feel like its a big enough deal to go to the ER - which I get.

And those people who had no surgery did receive a bill I assure you and they were expected to pay it. Whether they did or not is a different story - but if you're an american and you do that it will affect your credit to never pay the bill.

Yeah, it's a messed up system.

It seems like some Americans can get away with it. The bills are incredible for people who work and make an almost decent salary, but the system seems to work better for people who can't pay at all -- which makes no sense. It's really mind-boggling to see someone come in with fancy manicured nails, a Coach bag, and $300 cell phone who comes to a hospital clinic for a pregnancy test b/c she "can't pay" $10 for a pregnancy test from the drugstore.

I really hope that Ping will be able to find an OB/GYN or Family Med doc in her area who would be willing to work out a payment plan or a pay-what-you-can scenario.

Better yet, I hope she feels better and is completely healthy forever!!
