We had 2 vets (the clinic was almost cancelled) and were expecting
around 35 cats. Amazingly, these 2 vets spayed/neutered all the cats
in 5 1/2 hours. Fortunately, there were only around 8 pregnant cats
and lots of kittens.

We did 110 cats today at the Philadelphia SPCA. I gotta tell you, I'm beat--I worked Recovery from 10:00AM to 5:00PM and was on my feet the whole time. We lost only four cats--one died in the OR and three were euthanized. I saw the worst ear mite case I've ever seen today--it took over 20 minutes to clean those ears out, and at one point I pulled a petrified piece of ear gunk half the size of a sugar cube out of this poor cat's ear--I'm surprised the cat isn't deaf by now.

Then, of course, there are the usual issues--stray and feral cats do tend to have flea infestations, ticks are sometimes found, and there are fight injuries which need to be treated. All of this must be done while the cat is unconscious--when he wakes up he'll shred you if you try. For many cats, we're the only medical treatment they'll ever get--it's sad, but that's reality....
