When I saw the last movie I wondered if leaving out the mirror that Sirius gave Harry meant that it wasn't going to be important. I was wrong. Wonder what the movie people are gonna do about that?

And I did love that last chapter, only I had some trouble figuring out who all the kids belonged to. They threw in so many names. If I read it again, very carefully, I might be able to figure out most of them, but really, it probably doesn't matter.

Amazon delivered as promised: 10:00am Saturday morning by UPS and I finished at 10pm with a couple of "rest stops".
A lost book day yet again.
I was hoping for the best and fearing the worse before I started. I wasn't disappointed and actually felt good at the end. A lot of things came together and it was a great read start to finish. Good job by the author and she left an out for continuing on if she runs out of her billion or can't resist one more tale to tell.

SPOILER!!!
They can probably incorporate the mirror into the next or last film as a flashback.

James, Albus, and Lily are Harry and Ginny's kids, while Rose and Hugo are Ron and Hermione's. Teddy Lupin is Remus and Tonks's son. Victoire must be Bill and Fleur's daughter. Scorpius is Draco Malfoy's son.

Did anybody else find Harry's parents' death date odd: October 31, 1981?

Nuh uh...might give me away!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!! I laughed, I cried, and I was sooo happy! DH needs to read it (he's such a SLOW reader). I started last night, and read from 9:30p.m. until 1a.m., then I really didn't get back into it until 12 or so, after church today.

My mom was visiting yesterday so I lost a whole Harry Potter day, lol.

Btw, I also loved the last chapter.

And if this takes place in the same year as we are in now, Harry is 27, not 17 (he was 1 when his parents died).

I loved it! I read until about 2 a.m. I couldn't fight sleep anymore. I finished the book about an hour ago (had to play with Libby and feed her and clean her litterbox lol).

I knew that Snape loved Lily! I was like they better explain everything. I was just mad that it took so long for Ron and Hermione to kiss.

So he turned out to be "that awful boy" Petunia referred to in "The Order of the Phoenix". He was a very complicated character, to say the least. No wonder everybody couldn't wait to see whose side he was actually on.

Okay what's strange about the death of his parents in 1981?

I know that Harry 15 months old when his parents were killed.

I also had a feeling that Tunie was jealous! And now come to think of it I never connected the "awful boy" to Snape.

When Dumbledore sent the howler to the Dursleys, what did he mean by "remember my last". Last what? Last conversation or something? Just an odd why to word it if that is the case.

Dumbledore was referring to previous correspondence with Petunia, and to the magical protection that Harry would have only while he still lived with his aunt (the same protection he had ever since his mother died to save him also made him safe at the Dursley's home.) I don't think it was said explicitly, but Dumbledore must have explained this to Petunia, and she must have promised that she would make sure Harry remained living with them while that protection was active. I believe this was explained in the 5th or 6th book.

No, but only because I calculated the date given in "Chamber of Secrets" (Nick's 'deathday' party) and figured out that it was set in 1992...

If you go by the years given in the book and "real time", Harry is 26 today. He was born July 31, 1980 if you go by the dates given in 'Chamber of Secrets' and 'Deathly Hallows.' I was born July 25th, 1981 and I am 25 so Harry would be 26 in the current time (for a week or so!)

Movin' on up!
Finally finished. Didn't get home from work, until 7 last night. Read until 11 and my eyes were crossing. Woke up at 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep.

Had to take break, around midday (I needed a nap).

The Battle of Hogwarts was one HECK of a battle. Of COURSE Molly Weasley killed Bellatrix. Molly had already had one child killed and another one maimed - ANY normal mother would have gone after the people responsible.

I didn't figure that Harry would die - J.K. Rowling would have been burned in effigy
As for Harry and Ginny, they're definitely breeding like Weasleys.

hmm, i think about 1/4 of the book was wasted pages. That really did nothing.

the battle in the last part of the book is very good, but really i think harry should have died.

I... don't get it.

I've been reading the book at work (shhhh
) and I don't understand. It's a decent, not very original children's book as far as I can tell. I mean... the general plot, the genre, etc have all been done before and imho done better, and the prose isn't fantastic.

I can see why people read it and it is very readable, I'm not saying that they are bad, but could someone explain to me why this series of books is presented like the holy grail of literature? I have to be missing something. We sold more than 500 copies this weekend, almost none to children, so what is going on!

I don't mean to insult the books-- but they don't seem like they'd be outselling everything, ever.

i think the first 4 create a fun world. and they are simple to read.
i mean really what did you expect for kids? a whole rewritting of magic?
what makes or breaks a book , is if you can relate or get atteched to the people in the story. Somethign which she did very well, Most people really care about what happens to the mains. In the end they are kid books.
took me what 4 hours to read the whole thing?

the whole thing can be said about most books. The da vinci code?
there was nothing good about it. It was mostley taken from some other books of research that other people did. That book as about as much fun as having my toes nail pulled out.

lol anyway i having a fight with someone who wanted me to tell them what ahppen and who died... i thought some of you may enjoy it

I'm finally finished! I waited in line at midnight and got the book at 12:10, but the whole ordeal was a lot longer than that. Once copies of the book started leaking out everywhere, it seemed certain people felt the need to spoil it for everyone else. One forum that I frequented had a post up in caps by the moderaters saying "HARRY POTTER SPOILERS ARE A BANNABLE OFFENSE". I read the sticky and saw that they had been actively removing posts where poeple were discussing the leaked HP book in both thread titles and in threads not labled about HP.

As silly as it sounds, I became paranoid on Wednesday, and completely shut myself off from everything that could possibly relay spoiler information. By the time I got the book, I read three chapters, and was so exhausted by my nervousness that I fell asleep for over 16 hours. I woke up, read until I fell asleep again, and then finished the book when I woke up.

<<<< SPOILERS >>>>

I was very pleased with the book. I knew at the destruction of the first Horcrux that Harry was one of them. I believed it more strongly as the book emphasised the connection between his scar and Voldemort. Unlike all the other books, in this one I really felt fear at the mention of Voldemorts name. Like it held a sort of power.

I knew pretty well the fate that HP would have to face... but I was hoping against hope that JK could spare him.

The last chapter really ended things the way I wanted them to. I didn't wanna put the book down sobbing, and she definitely made me happy with the way she ended it.

Just magnificent!

I love the twist with Snape, and I just knew that Harry would have to die, even if it was only for a few minutes

And I just love that Ginny ad Harry get together at the end, and same with Ron and Hermione!

So sorry about that. I really liked the twins. I didn't cry over anything though, but I was hurt about the deaths of quite a few people. I can't believe I felt the most for Snape though.

Is the board you're talking about hpna.com? I've been a member since the beginning of the year there, but since I had under 100 posts I can't post until they lift it. I think they should have a special forum so I could post my ideas on the book.
