Hi everyone, it's been a long while since i've been here.

I have a question about pesticides. My FIL sprayed all our baseboards with pesticides inside the house to get rid of bugs thinking he was helping us out.

Is there a danger to the cats? He did it today, do i need to wash all the baseboards off?

I can't say I know a lot about the subject but I've always thought it was a bad idea to spray any surface that the cats may come in contact with. At the very least they will get the dried residue on their paws or body and then lick it off.

On the other hand, my vet gave me a spray to use to eliminate fleas. She told me spray all soft surfaces including the carpet and that once it was dried it would be safe for the kitties.

Maybe it depends on the pesticide???

I'm concerned about this as well. I've had the house sprayed twice since adopting Gracie, and both times she vomited about 24 hours after the pesticide was used. *sigh*

I never allow spraying "inside" the house. If effective measures are taken outside the home, this is not necessary (unless dealing with extreme fleas, ticks, etc.) Even though many household insecticides are supposed to be non-toxic to animals, I've known far to many cases where this was not so. Vomiting, asthma attacks and allergies are common symptoms.

My hobby is indoor gardening so I have way, way more than the average number of houseplants. (Fortunately my cats are not interested in eating or chewing on my plants
) During a particularly bad mite attack on an expensive rare philodendron I stooped to ordering an "organic" mitacide over the internet. Even this was made with only plant extracts and humans could eat it after spraying on vegetables....but poor Lilly had one asthma attack after another until I took the plant outside and sprayed it with soapy water until clean.

Unless your inside bugs are terrible it's best not to spray at all. Perhaps you could just wipe off your baseboards with some soapy water. Dish soap and water is what I use on my plants now. It doesnt hurt the plants or kitties and most often kills the bugs.

My dad is a manage for Orkin pest control and has been in the pest control business for more than 25 years. Depending upon what was sprayed depends on the effect. My dad just recently sprayed the baseboard of my parents house for spiders etc... he said once it dries it is no harm to the pet (they have a dog).

Depending upon what was used I can ask him if it is safe--he is very cautious with that stuff.

We bought a house and the previous owner sprayed the crawl space only with Dursban. We went there the day they sprayed and there was a real strong odor in the house but we went back the next day and there was no odor. We really not moving in for 3 more
weeks and we have an indoor only cat. Will it be safe for kitty then inside the house? Please ask your Dad Jack31 I am very nervous every about this. Thank you.
