Think my cat has the flu

Yesterday I noticed her eye was a bit red and just generally something was off about them. She also wasn't purring and was making this strange noise, as in she was finding it difficult to breathe.

She hasn't eaten or drank anything in 24 hours and so I'm going to phone up the vet but would just like any experiences on the matter. How long does it last? I hear that once it's gone they become a carrier and it can come back in stressful situations?

Sounds to me like she may have an upper respiratory infection (URI). Your vet will give you antibiotics for her and it should clear up in a few days. It's a fairly common thing and nothing to worry about unless it's left untreated.

I've made an appointment to the vets tomorrow at half 9 so I'll see then.
