Hi. I'm new here.
The reason I joined was because I recently went from having just one cat...for 13 years, to accidentally adopting a second. Merfy (my father named her for Murphy's law, and misspelled her name to start off her string of bad luck...although she wasn't so lucky before we met her.) is my senior kitty. I've had her since middle school, and she went with me to college, and now she lives with me in the city with my fiancee. My family bought her as a kitten from a shelter. She'd been dumped at 3 weeks old..taped up in a box by someone probably very sick. She's a rather timid dilute calico.
The accidental cat is Isosceles. We live in Cleveland, where strays populate the streets. Once, when Merfy got out of the house and was lost in the city (she'd always lived in the suburbs before. I think she was afraid and hid.) I went to a nearby shelter looking for her. I was told "we take in 400 cats a day on average" by an employee, who then grimly guided me from room to room, looking and tiny face after tiny face.
We first saw Isosceles (cos he "just ain't right." that was my fiancee's idea) a couple of months ago. He was a tiny kitten with a terrible eye infection. He'd followed by fiancee into the yard while he was cutting our grass with the reel mower. When we tried to catch him he got away and hid somewhere.
A couple of weeks ago, my fiancee called me out to the yard. "Come get this kitten!" he said. I walked out to see the same little (but slightly larger now) kitten winding himself around my fiancee's legs. As soon as the little grey kitten saw me he ran over, i crouched down, and he jumped into my lap, purring.
He was skin and bone, wheezing, one eye still swelled almost shut, ear mites, and who knew what else? But he was friendly as any cat I'd ever seen. A winning personality. So brought him in. Our old house is filled with doors, so it was no trouble closing him away from Merfy, for health reasons.
He's healthy and playful after...a rather expensive veterinary visit and gets his first round of vaccinations tomorrow. I joined here looking for a webpage to reassure me that he and Merfy would eventually get along. Right now she sees him and hisses, but is not in the least bit aggressive. If he stays at least 5 feet away she'll just watch, ears forward with curiosity. He, to her dismay, purrs and wants to cuddle her.
Ah...I'm always too wordy.
I like all your pictures at the bottoms of your messages, btw. They're fun. Nice to meet you.
