Injured stray :(

A friend of mine contacted me for help with an injured stray a friend of hers saw around their house... I haven't seen the cat yet but she said the cat's leg was injured. I am worried because no one has seen the cat for a few days... I was going to try to catch the cat and get her seen by a vet but now I don't know where she is. I am trying to decide if I should try putting a cat trap in the person's backyard, (it's a 2-flat) but I have to be careful because I borrowed the trap from a local shelter and if it's stolen or something I will be the one responsible...

I think you should put the trap there and alert the people who live in both flats about what you are doing, talk to them, and see if they can give you more details about the cat as well as any other critters who might wander into the trap. That way they also have ownership of what is happening.

Do you think someone will really steal the trap? I am not sure why anyone would want to do that. But if they did, I am pretty sure the shelter will not go after you with a vengeance or anything. I am not sure about where you live, but where I live people trade traps around pretty freely.
