I noticed a little bit of white foam (not a whole lot) on my cat's mouth this morning and am wondering if I should be concerned. She was acting perfectly normal before I noticed it and after (I was in the same room when it appeared). After I left for work, my husband kept an eye on her until he left for work and said he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, and it didn't happen again.

What kinds of things can cause this?

The first thing that comes to mind is something with a very bad or bitter taste had been in her mouth. You might look around for something she could have been chewing on or eating that she shouldn't.

The other remote possibility is a dental problem. That would cause some drooling, not necessarily foaming but drool nonetheless.

That's all I can think of.

My cat's mouth foams after she eats grass. I agree, she probably tasted something she didn't like.

If it isn't continuing I am pretty sure she will be alright. If you are still concerned, calling up your vet won't hurt.

Also, if it's really hot and they pant, they can foam. But I'd think of her eating someting that tastes nasty first.
