Oh, I don't want the text in unusual shapes, I want it to wrap around the picture. Like when you use word etc you can import pictures then click a wrap text button, which wraps the text around the picture so that both are visible.
Or did I simply miss something there?

There is no text wrap option like that as the text is on a different layer and can't 'see' the picture. What I usually do is put each line of text on a different layer and move them around until I feel comfortable with how they look.

As far as the feathering, a feather of 2 will only show on pics up to about 600px in either direction, I prefer a softer look and working with bigger pictures so I often have the feather set higher (around 4) and will copy and paste the image to a new layer and if the edges still seem to sharp, will go back to my selection and add for of a feather in the select menu.

As far as the actual cutting out, I find the magnetic lasso with the frquency set high (90s) is how I get my best cutouts, any lower and it 'catches' on things it is not supposed to and click reguarly before changing directions to make sure you get a little square dot thing to say it has caught the shape

Oh ok, I guess I will have to get rid of the text. Thats ok.

The feathering thing I have found 10 seems to do a good job, however you might say otherwise.

OMG and the frequency at 90, holy sh*t thats superb, it was at like the factory setting of 57 and would take me about 10mins to get it right, now its like 1 minute if that.

Thanks alot

Yeah I keep mine set at 93, works a lot better.

Basically the feather is the number of pixels you want to seem blurred, if you are working on a photo of 1800 px you will need a much higher feather than if you are working on a photo of 500px. I also set the width of my magnetic lasso on the top menu at 3-4px too.

This is the edited welcome sign, just to check I'm on the right track.

And finally just a little sig fun, to make sure I've got the feathering right. I have no idea why it looks grainy again.

I had 1 more but I've resized and saved it 2x yet when I put the link here and preview it seems to go back to being slightly larger than it should be.

You know I had never looked in this part of the forum and didn't know that all this helpful info would be there. I was just after opinions and instead got lots of support and help.

THANKS EVERYONE AT TCS.

If you are using photoshop, there is a save for web feature
I will save as jpg next time, I did save for web option but it does gif. they usually get transformed to about 34kb so I do a bit of tweaking when using the save for web feature.

Is it a great improvement or just so so? that welcome one I just smudged his face til it looked normalish

THANKS EVERYONE AT TCS.
This would look really really cute if you made some whiskers for Diego!
Is there any way to just draw them in?

Also, pretty soon your going to have to make a siggie with the new kitty!

Whiskers are very hard to draw in correctly and generally it makes the whole picture look fake which is why many people don't bother. You can try the long grass brush, but you need to go into the brush options and change the scattering so they go where you want them rather than where it wants to put them.

As far as save for web, there is usually a drop down menu (just above where it says high)

If you are blurring the sides after the fact, it may look better if you make a copy of the layer and blur it and set it to soft light or something so that there is not such a contrast between the blurred area and non blurred areas

Yes whiskers are almost impossible for me to draw, I mean y hand seems shakey at the best of times but, when I'm doing my best to get it looking natural then the thing makes the line go in a way you weren't expecting, it really makes your blood simmer.

I am currently working on a few new sigs to incorporate the new kitten, but whilst his name is still not confirmed Its making the process a little slow.

I just completed this siggy but have ran into a small problem, when I saved it for web its size is 29.88KB but when I clicked properties when doing a preview for here it says its 32.12KB. Any idea what might be causing that?

Oh yea my photoshop layout seems to be completely different to the to the one you displayed Icklemiss. I don't know how to do a screen shot like that so am unable to show you how it looks.

P.S

I noticed someone else here has a cat named ginger so going with Ryu for now.

Uploading to most photohosting sites adds around 3kb for some reason. I save all of mine to 25kb to be safe.

As far as the layout, I think I was using CS not CS2 when I did the screenshot but they are not that different (I also tend to close and open different windows in photoshop so you may have more or less boxes open)

My keyboard has a screenshot button, I press that, paste it into a new document in photoshop and save it.

.
I have no idea what CS and CS2 are, I'm assuming they are a version/type of photo shop?

I use photoshop elements 5 and I have to say that the layouts appear to be completely different. (that or its my imagination getting carried away on me
)

Thanks for the help.

As you can see I just resized it again. Strangely though no extra KBs were put onto it. Strange technology eh

I love this siggy though. Think it might just be the best one I've created.

Man! One of these days I will own Photoshop, and not just gimp which I can't seem to figure out, and then I'll know what you all are talking about too. Good job working your way around it and learning it well enough to put those together!
