For me it's "Bye, Squeakling/Peepling/Tuckerling...I'll be back as soon as I can!" Then I kiss and pat their heads.
By then the horn is honking, but what can Ido? It's important business to say goodbye to my babies!

For bf and I it's: "Be good. Molly's in charge."

(Molly being substantially older than the rest of the kitties, and Bobby's (the next oldest in the house) actual Momcat. (Molly and Bobby are the two curled up together in the leftmost panel of my sig - Molly is the calico.)

For me, it's "You kittens be good. I love you all! I'll be home later/at lunch."

For Earl it's "Kittens be good, be back in a bit."

And no, it doesn't matter that Trent and Ophelia are 7 1/2 years old, or that both Ginger and Mojo are over a year now. They are and will always be "kittens".
I know! BF and I got "in trouble" with a friend who came by expecting to see, you know, actually *kitten*, sheesh! when all of ours, at the time, were at least like nearly a year old.

It's the flail-y guy that raises that post to art.

And we know you love them. Otherwise (dun dun dun)...

(the bf and I were just reminiscing about Bit stories today!)

Usually the goodbyes are individual, and are something like "Bye sweetie, Mum's gotta go catch mousies now (going to work), see you later. Look after the house now -- Mum counts on you." And if more than one is present, "Everybody be nice, now!"

I peek my head out the door and say goodbye to whoever is outside at the moment. If one comes to the door, I give him/her a little friendly scratch behind the ears. Then I tell them I love them. If there's nobody outside (which means they're out wandering around/hunting) I just leave.

I always say as I'm walking out the door "Bye Babies! Be Good!! (I might repeat that one a couple times
) Mommy loves you!" I have to say babies because my dog Vino would feel left out

I tell each individual cat goodbye and have a good day.

B puts either Patches or Beauty in charge.

It's so true. I usually say to Oz "Mommy's leaving -- be good!" and give him a kiss on his forehead (which then leads to him trying to grab my head so that he can kiss my forehead ...). Sometimes I'll tell him he's in charge, and that he and his brother aren't allowed to have anybody over for a kegger.

To Spike, though, I always say "Please don't eat or break anything" and leave it at that. I think asking him to "be good" is asking for too much.

After Spike caught the squirrel in our bathroom (and Oz failed to even show his face), I started telling Spike that he was in charge. I still don't ask him to be good, though; if I come home and Spike hasn't found something new to destroy, it's been a good day. I've just given up on having nice things or getting too attached to the things I do own.

My goodbyes usually take awhile. LOL

Skye I pick her up snuggle her and tell her to be a good girl and take care of Selena. Then kiss her put her down and she rubs and purs on my legs while I go say goodbye to everyone else.

Calamity gets a kiss on the head then she rolls over for a belly rub. While I tell her to be good and to be nice to Skye and Selena or she will be locked up the next day. LOL

Selena gets picked up and snuggled and she gives me a bath then a couple of love bites. Then I put her down and she joins her mom following me around rubbing on my legs. LOL

Then I go to the cage. I open it up take Butch out clean up his eyes give him lots of pets rub his neck till he goes limp then kiss it. Then I put him up.

Then I take Sundance out clean up his eyes. Snuggle with him till he starts squirming and then I put him back up.

Willow I take out check for any ickies on her (she likes to roll in the litterbox) clean her off if she has anything on her. Then I snuggle and kiss all over her. Telling her how pretty and fluffy she is. LOL Then she goes up.

Hickory
gets to come out and I carry him around snuggling with him while I get ready to leave. He sits on my shoulder while I brush my teeth and do some other stuff. All the while purring, rubbing on my head and kneading on my shoulder. Hes the sweetest kitten ever! He then gets a couple more kisses and hugs and goes back up into the cage.

Then Skye, Selena and Calamity get some more snuggles and then I leave. Like I said my goodbyes take a LONG time. LOL

There is always so much howling and crying (yes he cries and it sounds like a person) from Moscow that I just say "I love you baby girls", and leave as quickly as possible.

I also make sure Midnight is accounted for. I put my Lab in his crate, say "later gator" and then look for Midnight. She is usually perched atop the fridge which is right by the back door. I'll then scratch her underneath her chin and say later little one!

When I get home, she is either in front of Tal's crate or on top of it. They are just sitting there waiting for me.

Usually the cats and dog are in the family room by the door and we will say "ok guys you all hold the fort down - we'll be back soon"
